Hello, Couple things, I’m looking for a good aftermarket wireless backup camera for my 2007 Dodge Ram. When going on Amazon there are so many brands it can make your head spin. So I was hoping for some help on brands.

Then I also wanted to know which color wire was the correct reverse/backup light? Thanks

I have the Whistler wireless backup camera. Not many advantages, lots of disadvantages. After initial battery charging it uses solar to charge, takes a long time, mine is in garage hardly ever works. Only stays on for about 45 seconds after initial startup then shuts down. must power off and back on to get it up again, shifting to reverse does not power it up. Becomes part of rear license plate holder so powered recharging is not an option. Batteries discharge if not exposed to sun light for about 5 days. Other than that it doesn't work very often.

I believe you will need something that turns on when vehicle is put in reverse and stays on until you get out of reverse. Try searching places like ETrailer.com and some of the other towing specialists on the net, also maybe Amazon.

Thanks Mike, I was wondering about the solar ones, sounds like they’re junk.

Not completely junk, just not set up for how I drive. If installed on a daily driver that sits out in sunshine every day (most every day), they stay charged and perform as designed. My truck usually sits in the garage for 5 - 6 days a week, so the thing discharges and pretty much stays that way, so no camera. Your situation may be as a daily that sits out during the day it should work fine, however if you plan to use it to help you backup to your trailer, I think you would be much better off with one of the wired ones that turn on when reverse is selected, rather than one that turns on when the ignition is turned on. Several of the internet hitch companies offer these types.
