Ac problem

I am having problems with my ac in a 2015 ram 2500 Laramie. It seems out of no where my ac does not blow nearly as cold or hard as my passenger side? My heat blows same temperature out of both side with maybe just a very very small difference in fan speed ( how hard it blows). It also seems like if I’m stopped at a red light the temperature does get cooler on the driver side until I start moving agin. Any ideas?? It almost seems like after an 2 hour drive it will randomly work but it maybe just me getting use to or wishful thinking. This randomly started no noise like a broke blend door.

Its one of 3 things 1.check the charge on the system if low drivers side blows warmer then pass 2.check coolant fans 3. Have someone with a good scanner scan the truck to see if there is any codes for blend doors.

These are all great ideas I left my truck for 4 days and when I got into my truck this afternoon I didn’t have any ac at all and noticed a smell of musty in side the cab when I opened the door didn’t noticed any kind of water or wet on the floorboards. The heat still works out of both vents but I can say with out a doubt there was no AC just luke warm air when on low AC

The musty smell might be the A/C condensate drain plugged up under the truck (insects can build a nest in the drain tube). When that happens, water can accumulate in the bottom of the HVAC box, and eventually leak down onto the carpets and under the carpet pad.

Or, your 3rd brake light started to leak (unrelated to your A/C problem). The foam seal on them goes bad on Rams and they often leak. There's a lot of water leak posts on this forum per the 3rd brake light. The water can leak down and get on the floor, and the carpet pad can soak up the water. THen it gets 'musty' smelling. It would be a good idea to check under the carpet to see if it's soaked. If so, lift up the carpet a little and slide some pieces of lathe or something under the carpet pad so it'll dry out. A fan wouldn't hurt either.

The AC could be a number of things. Your best bet is to take it to an AC shop, or the dealer. Get an accurate diagnosis and repair procedure.

I did find my drain was clogged with dirt from a pest and I also noticed the cap closets to the fire wall looked like this.

yeah that is your Low Pressure (suction) fitting there is another High pressure fitting you need a R134 A/c Manifold gauge kit to read the pressures while running to know what the issue is

Could be the Schrader valve in the low pressure port is leaking.
That's where you hook up those charging cans sold in auto stores, might've damaged the valve stem.
It's just like a tire valve stem, easy to replace but whole system has to be evacuated and recharged.

IF you try doing it yourself BE SURE to get the RIGHT type Freon ! There is 134m 1234 nd a few others, Mixing types wouild not be good

I hooked up a cheap Walmart gauge on it and you can see the pressure go from 15 to 45 and sounds like something is trying to click on and of like the the motor of the truck even chances pitch

If it's cycling on & off it's probably low pressure switch turning it off. When turned on the low side drops below the cutoff pressure turning the clutch off then the high & low sides equalize which resets the low pressure switch and allows it to turn on. This cycle will repeat until you add more freon.

As I mentioned before, there could be a number of things besides low refrigerant. If you took it to Autozone or OReilly's, or another parts store they should be able to do a free scan of your HVAC system module, and there's likely too be a code or two. It could be something like a faulty pressure switch, or a few other things, like blend door motors. If it's low on refrigerant, I think there's a code for that too. Could save you a lot of guesswork. If the scan didn't point you in the right direction (which it probably will), it should at least help remove possibilities from your list.

That's your ac compressor kicking on and off. Not sure what gauges your using but on a real set 15 is way to low should be about 55 PSI with compressor running.
