My 2005 dodge ram 1500 HEMI 5.7 has great acceleration response except when i slowly apply acceleration from the stop. The best way i can describe the problem is when i slowly accelerate it lags every 500 rpms or so. The throttle respons is immediate but the consistancy of the acceleration doesn't feel right on slow accelerations. If anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you cleaned your Throttle Body?
They get gunked up and act funny.

And after you should relearn your apps(accelerator pedal position sensor)/tb

Key on engine off, wait untill all the dash lights and dings stop
Slowly and smoothly push the gas pedal to the floor and then come back the same way
Key off

Done

If the throttle body has been changed, or reinstalled, the following
procedure must be performed:

a. Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
Leave cable disconnected for approximately 90
seconds.
b. Reconnect cable to battery.
c. Turn ignition switch ON, but do not crank
engine.
d. Leave ignition switch ON for a minimum of 10
seconds. This will allow PCM to learn throttle
body electrical parameters.

None of that fixed it. I'm thinking maybe the spark plugs or the air filter

Damn. Whatever happened to simply adjusting the air/fuel mixture on the set screws...

How long have you owned it? Was it always like this or did it just happen?
Maybe something with the tranny mis-shifting?

I've owned it about 4 months. 2005 1500 with 74000 miles. I just noticed a couple weeks ago but it could have been doing it the whole time. Is there a way I can diagnose this without bringing it into the dealer?
