Active grill shutters, possibly not opening correctly

Took mine off a year and a half ago and have had zero problems relating to shutters / air flow. A big plus was the A/C put out colder air with the increased air flow over the condenser.

I pulled my shutters until I get to do the fluid/filter and chalk vale.

I took mine off at 6000 miles,to make room. Followed the SC kit instructions.I had shutters on a 54 JD.A model so I know the plastic shutters on the ram are not something I would trust.

So.. yanked all of the shutters because due to how the clip snaps in it seems that you'd have to have the bottom and top shutter in place. What I don;t like about that setup is if you leave the top shutter in and remove the two below it that top one is still covering over 50% of the surface area of that half of the radiator that cools the transmission fluid. Like the top of the grill is too low as compared to the radiator. I know, I know.. people MUCH smarter than I am designed it but it's weird to me.

In any case, the first drive after pulling them all resulted in a P1D73. What weird is that the stepper motor that controls the shutters is still there.. and has full movement. I will have to visually verify it moves like it's supposed to and if it does I'll just toss in the top and bottom shutters and try again.

It knows how much resistance and range of motion it has. There's weights you can put on it to make it think it's still moving the shutters correctly and I think some people just drill it out and stop the arm from moving too much.

Wow, interesting that it's that complete. versus just a fully open or fully closed. Did not expect that.. Well like I said I'm not against the AGS system's purpose. It'll be complete once I resolve the trans temp 'issue'.

You need to modify it otherwise you'll get a light.

I removed all but the top and bottom two years ago. No check engine light. It needs to have that much to see the amount of travel the shutter arm moves.

I'm going to take the whole thing out in the spring and put an arm movement stop on the motor, then mount it out of the way.

I re-mounted mine behind the radiator support after adding a home made arm stop on it. Back there, it isn't subjected to exposure of the water when driving in the rain. Cable is plenty long to relocate.

Looks normal temps to me also, sensors are not 100% accurate. I always look at it like plus or minus 10 Degrees. JMHO as a 54 plus years Diesel/Gas HD Mechanic.

Analog gauges driven by mechanical sensors.. for sure! This being the newest, and fanciest, truck I've ever had I'd hoped the digital side might be more accurate. Perhaps not.

I removed AGS, installed oil catch can and 180 degree t-stat... no codes. Everything runs cooler. Coolant 185d, oil 200d, trans 185d, a/c on (colder too), not towing ambient temp 82d. 2014 sport 5.7, 8 speed trans.

I just found out about this after reading my error code. What B.S.
I have one from rock auto, looks simple enough. Wish I could eliminate it.
