Hey all,

Just joined the forums a few weeks ago due to the recent purchase of 2014 1500 V6. So far I love the truck, thank you for all of your hard work documenting information on this site, it has been a tremendous help.

I plan on upgrading the basics such as backup camera, radio, and footwell lights etc. I am curious about Tip Start - I have not found any mention of it on the forums. I know it really is not much of an "upgrade" per se, but I wonder how difficult and expensive adding the feature would be? Does anyone know the parts & programming needed to add to a truck without it?

I plan to buy the autostart kit off moparonlineparts, they do not mention it as a requirement, hopefully it is not required for the plug and play kit?

Thanks for any guidance!

Sorry I cannot help you. I thought all Rams that don't have keyless enter and go have tip start. I had a 2011 SLT with the 4.7 that had it. Friends 2013 tradesman dos too and that is a V6.

You sure you don't have it? It literally is you tap the fox to start the truck and not have to hold it. It you tap it again while starting the dash will flash but nothing happens with the starter, etc and the truck keeps running.

Tip start is where you turn the key to start the truck, and you can completely let go of the key and the engine will keep cranking until it starts. If the engine doesn’t fire up, the cranking will automatically time out after 10 seconds. As far as I know, tip start is a standard feature on all 4th gen rams.

As for adding “auto start” (I assume you mean remote start), do you have remote keyless entry (a key fob that you can unlock your doors with remotely)?

I've never heard of it. So, all it does is keep you from holding the key in the start position for 1-9 more seconds? Sweet.

^^^^ I second this.
Just turn the key all the way over to start(till the key stops turning) and let go. Tip starting is what makes the push button possible.
Tip starting also works for the diesel truck owners, the truck will cycle the glow plugs/grid heater if needed then proceed to start the truck.

So, all it does is keep you from holding the key in the start position for 1-9 more seconds?
It does have one draw back: Once you get accustomed to using it, you'll find yourself trying to "Tip Start" every vehicle.

I had a small panic (for no real reason) yesterday in my wife’s Camry bc I did exactly this. Luckily I held it just log enough that the starter turned it over. Lol

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I have tried to start it in this fashion, and the truck does not start itself. I test drove a few trucks with it before buying mine and it was a cool feature for sure. I also noticed it is listed on the build sheets, and my truck doesn't have it listed. I do have remote keyless entry, and yes I was referring to "remote start" sorry about that no idea where I came up with "Auto Start"....

Interesting. It has been neat seeing just how different each truck is with all of the options and small differences....
