Battery threads are funny. For someone's particular experience, someone else has a polar opposite experience.
Batteries. Tires. Filters. Oil. All funny. Some ppl get but-t hurt. I just gobble gobble.

I understand I suppose asking about tires ,batteries , whatever . But how the poor OP will ever decide which way to go is beyond me . I don't recall ever asking what battery , tire ,etc to buy . I may have asked about a particular item ,and that too is going to get you as confused as asking about which brand . :D But ,hey it's fun to read ,and reply .

I really like Cooper tires ,and I am running a set now , the best set of tires to date I have run on my Ram 3500 . Anyone have any thoughts on the Cooper , might as well venture out a bit on this thread . :p

What bothers me sometimes is that some people can serve on juries.

Yeah, they are all thread topics that are never settled or show a overwhelming consensus. Sometimes you just have "yeet it" making a decision and just live with it because there is no magic 8 ball on the future outcome.

It is also something that is basically irrelvant. A battery costs about the same as two tanks of gas. Even if you pick wrong, so what. I always get a kick out of the amount of mental mastrubation that goes into picking a really low cost component.

I just went through a battery issue I didn't know I had / about two weeks ago my driving lights stopped working [ dial was on auto ] then a couple days ago remote start stopped working, went for groceries truck turned over like it had 100 weight oil and the next day click click. Where I'm going with this is the AGM was only 11 months old so I pulled it went back to dealer he checked it and said nothing wrong / put it back in truck charging for 21 hours it would only charge to 12.4 volts , drove back to dealer he came out with a high buck machine [ 30 mile hr winds snowing ] put it on battery pondered for 30 seconds and decided to replace. Went back to battery that manual said to use not AGM, now driving lights and remote start works again. Two lessons learned here, those big fancy testers aren't always right and a week battery don't allow things to work. That's my lesson learned, If u may have electrical issues all of a sudden check battery, she needs 12.5v to 12.7v ...

Batteries are like poke and hope. Only a few companies make them now, they R just rebranded and sold by whomever. U just never know.
OP: keep an eye on yer charging system for a while. ALSO, always a good idea to "charge" a battery to 100% SOC when you get it, as those sitting on the shelf may not be anywhere near that, and the vehicle charging systems not necessarily gonna get battery to 100%.

My 2013 OEM Batteries lasted 3.5 years, My deka AGM are Now 8+ years old, Now that being said the truck sits for 10+ days during much of the winter months, if you don't add some type of continuous charging they will fail in XXs months, the picture below is my old 12w solar charger, I have change it to 21w now.

This applies to everything in life...;) Ask someone ...hey how are you doing today. Usual reply...I'm ok. But, ask again... are your Really? Well, my back hurts and the "War Department" is being a pain. Like product ratings......If what you bought is working great. I am not motivated to comment or report on it. But let something not work and I am typing ASAP. Such is life.

In my experience, whether lead-acid or AGM, I get 4-5 years out of an automotive battery - I am in Southern California. In my experience, i shop lowest price and ease of access for replacement if/when needed.

I completely agree with the several posts that point out - extreme weather conditions plays a huge part in the longevity of auto batteries, take the feedback from folks in your climate area to heart.

The very best/longest lasting auto battery I personally ever had was an oem battery that came in a 2008 BMW Convertible I had - that oem AGM BMW branded battery lasted 14 years.
I realize this is just strange luck or what have you, but in 1997 my wife bought a 1986 Chevy Cav Z24. great car and very peppy with a 2.8 v6. all that make very little difference to the story but sets a scene if you will. I met her a few months after she bought that, we got married and we had that car until 2010 and the battery in that car was the original as far as I could tell delco gm stock battery the car was rolled off the dealership with.

It has been pointed out a few times on this subject that AGM batteries are not necessarily the best replacements for wet cell batteries for technical reasons.

The AGM i ran in my truck costs about $700 now, thats some big fuel tank if 2 fills covers the cost of it now :Big Laugh:
My 14's charging system never had any issues keeping it charged, and it was a good 15ft from where it originally was located.
Very back box was where the battery was located

Good read ,my question was when I went from lead acid to AGM in my truck , was the charging system compatible with AGM . I know when I went to AGM with my electric trolling motor I had to buy a charger that had the AGM charging mode . Likewise when I went to lithium with my electric trolling motor had to again buy another charger that had the Lithium charge mode . I am a bit charger poor now . :) But I do have everything covered .

Anyway make to the truck ,I don't really remember now about the AGM compatibility , but I do remember checking into it ,and it was okay to use . Must be , it's been a couple years now .

Most vehicles that come from the factory with a lead acid battery usually do not have the charging profiles to optimally charge a AGM. Most people can squeak by just swapping to a AGM from lead acid and doing nothing else, but it is usually advisable to occasional top charge them with maintainer once in awhile to get longer life. Some late model vehicle have changeable module PIDS with a scan tool that can select a AGM charge profile.

That's the million dollar question here, With alphaobd you can go into the charging profiles, unfortunately they are numbered, 1...2....3.. etc so while you can change it does anyone know what number corresponds with what profile?

Odyssey H8 + 6.4 alternator + Noco onboard battery tender.

This is my secret sauce , heck all my vehicles have Odysseys withs Noco onboard battery tenders.. lol

I live in a small town, If I lived close to a Costco you best believe Id grab H8 AGM from there as they don't test them when you bring them in. So new H8 every 3y :peace:

My old man does it with his Cummins batteries :anitoof:
