Just curious what the general consensus is on adding rear air bags. Is it worth the time and money going with an Air lift 5000 vs a Air Lift 1000 on a 2012 Ram 1500 Sport?

I have the 1000's on my 2015 RCSB with 2/4 drop and I can't put any air in them as they make the rear of the truck bounce so much that I can't stand it, might
work if your towing or hauling heavy payloads, but I have not done either of those yet.

Thanks for the input. Mainly I'd air them up when I'm going to haul a heavy load in the bed. Other than that they wouldn't get used. So I'm thinking the Air Lift 5000 would just be way over kill, especially for the cost difference.

You might take a look at timbren and sumo springs. Being urethane you don't have to deal with when to air up. They just start working as you apply load.

If your going to haul or tow anything substantial, I would at least do the 1000 kit. I haul an ATV, and I get everyone giving me high beams if I haul at night.. the truck squats 3" with a 600lb atv in the box.
My next truck im going to do the 1000 kit from the start.

The air bag kit does not replace a WDH when towing a heavy trailer.

Yeah I agree. I was looking to add the Airlift 1000 then I saw how many people have issues with them especially in cold climate, so I have made my choice on Timbren. Easy to install and requires no maintenance.

The downside to Timbren is they can make the ride jarring if you don't have enough of a load to keep them engaged. Someone posted they would pull the Timbrens out when they weren't planning on towing their trailer as it made going over bumps really obnoxious.

My long time “tire guy” (30+ yrs) said he recommends Timbrens for the RAM 1500 but he uses a bandsaw and removes 1 inch from the bottom before installation. He has modified several for customers who had installed them themselves and each one reported back that removing that 1” made them perfect.

I would recommend going with either double convoluted airbag or better yet a tapper airbag like the Firestone F9000 sleeved bags. These made my truck ride like a Cadillac and extremely responsive to road conditions.
Double convoluted bags are good also, however are somewhat rigid when compared to tapper/sleeved bags.

Extremely reliable and were on my truck for roughly 3 years before I sold it.
