Good Day all, newbie here.

I would like to put a CAI on my truck, be it from K&N, or Airaid, etc. It was suggested to me not with K&N due to possibility of "Check Engine" light coming on. Now I find, that could be a possibility with Airaid. And I don't want to void the factory warranty.

Any suggestions??

Thank you.

*of note*

A buddy of mine, his friend through a seat valve in his Challenger (which was still under warranty), and Chrysler wouldn't warrant the repair costs because he had an after market CAI on his car.

Installing an intake should not void your warranty unless the dealer can prove that it is the cause of the problem. I know some folks here have the airaid. Let's wait for them to chime in.

Unless you are in Canada there is no basis for the stealership to deny warranty work for a CAI. Now tuner or blower? That's a different story.

In the US under the Magnusson-Moss Act dealer must prove failure caused by non original part. Once you call them on that they typically back off. Its a different story if your wheelwells are full of rubber from burnouts or you fail to change oil (obvious abuse/stress on drive train like with a tuner or blower) etc.

For RAM with 5.7L The two most popular CAIs (and no CAI will throw a check engine light) are Vararam and S&B.

K&N, AIRAID and others are just hot air sucking noise makers--with poser throttle noise. Yes, the filter is bigger, but they no longer provide cold air drawn through the fender well because they suck on the bottom of your hood and don't seal out heat saturated engine bay air.

That being said, you aren't going to get huge performance increases from just a CAI. CAI gives a little butt dyno increase and wont void your warranty, but the CAI is really a helper for tuner, headers, ported throttle body etc. which may not make dealer happy at all.
Of course you can go full on screamer with a blower and Nox, but wait until your warranty is up because that will get you denied repairs.

I have on in the Mustang, and one in the Ram. I will guarentee you, that an AirRaid will increase hp in the newer Mustangs. Enough guys have access to dynos now days. It's a proven fact.

The design for the Ram is basically the same as the Mustang. I have a magazine at home with an article in it, that they put different CAIs on a 5.7 Hem. They all did some gains. Some better than others. I'll try to find that old mag, take pics and post it.

I did gears, a tuner, along with the AirRaid. Can I feel a difference? Not really sure. It looks good, sounds great, does pretty good on gas if I drive like a grandma. That's hard for me to do. It runs and sounds so good, it's hard to not romp on it a bit.

Exactly what Casper said. Couldn't have said it better myself. :waytogo:

I had the K&N on my last truck and went with the Airaid on my RAM. Neither of them made the "check engine light" remain on or caused any other problems.

I have the Airaid but I'm not sure I would recommend it. Even though it has rubber seals that supposedly seal to the hood to prevent it from pulling warm air.. it's total bs. I would recommend the S&B kit over Airaid or K&N.

I'm deciding if I even want to use the Airaid over the stock airbox.. and just sell my Airaid..

Well I'm using a K&N CAI and I'm getting good performance out of it and better throttle response also. So yes I'm enjoying driving and the sound of it is also freat to hear when you get on it.
