Little lost on on what each does, can anyone with some knowledge give a little explanation of what each does, cost etc....I'm sure this will help a lot of newbies like me when it comes to adding codes for various things.

I for one have a auto dim mirror not installed yet, and wondering which is the best way to go go ahead with it.

The most basic explanation would be, imagine a room with a switch that is off, and a light bulb socket with no bulb. That’s how the BCM is when an option is not installed. You come along and screw a bulb in the socket (install the hard parts for the option). Now the switch needs to be turned on. Both AlfaOBD and a genie do this. The big difference is, you are paying an ungodly amount of money for the genie, which can only do ONE option on ONE vehicle. The AlfaOBD can do every option on unlimited FCA vehicles for way cheaper.

And the money for the Bluetooth interface (~$70 for the recommended one). Either way, it’s a no-brainer. You’ll come out way ahead with AlfaOBD.

Genie = Costs a lot for what it does, but is pretty much idiot proof.

Alfa OBD = Cheaper, but you need to pay attention to what your doing or you can really mess stuff up.

I know this is an old thread, but just a word of caution. The OBD Genie just corrupted my progamming on my 2018 Ram 1500. Program loaded fine, got the horn beep and green light, waited about 20 minutes and tried the fog lights, which is what I was trying to activate. The OBD Genie took out my headlights, turn signals and gave me airbag, turn signals, and washer fluid warnings. Truck was just serviced the day before and was perfect, after the download of OBD Genie, it's headed to the dealer to have it flashed back to factory specs. Just a word of caution if you think about using Genie, there is NO WAY to reverse the program once it's loaded.
