Another Ram owner posted on reddit about not being able to get a Simple Key fobik to work on his 2011 3500. A dealership had told him that it wouldn't work because he didn't have electric locks (even though he did).
After a little back and forth, I figured out that the Simple Key set he purchased said "replacement key" in all the instructions and guessed that the included obd programmer was assuming rke was already enabled on his truck.
I also found out that he lived relatively close to me and offered to try to program a fobik for him with alfaobd.
He had already returned the Simple Key set, so he ordered a pair of fobiks from Amazon and we met up to program them.
Rke was not enabled, even though he had run the obd programmer that came in the Simple Key set, so I thought my suspicions had been confirmed.
I enabled rke and programmed one of his fobiks.
The process worked differently than when I had programmed fobiks on 2014 and later models. Alfaobd never asked me to push a button on the remote and there was no option to "replace/reset rf hub".
The programmed fobik then worked to start the truck, but it's lock/unlock buttons didn't do anything.
Since I couldn't reset the rf hub, we disconnected both his batteries (both + & -) for 30 minutes and still no joy.
I enabled the alarm and remote start to see if the buttons on the fobik would stop the alarm once it had been triggered or give me the "remote start aborted, hood is open" message. Still nothing. We couldn't even trigger the alarm.
Today, he reported to me that starting the next morning after our programming session, the alarm goes off when he unlocks the truck with his key and continues until he starts the truck with the key or the programmed fobik.
I can't imagine a scenario where he has an rf hub that can be successfully programed to enable the alarm, but doesn't support unlocking the doors/disabling the alarm with the fobik. Is there something I'm missing?
Is there an external antenna that the 2011 rf hub needs that maybe wasn't included from the factory, since it didn't come with rke?
Do the basic (non highline) fobiks come in more than one frequency?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
