I've installed a "new" used BCM in my 2019 Ram 1500. I used the pc-based AlfaOBD with OBD Link MX bluetooth and AMHTDOL SGW bypass. No problem downloading BCM config file from old BCM and installing it onto the "new" used BCM. Can't write the VIN# to the BCM, however. I even did the engineering reset on the BCM that clears the VIN#, then tried to write the VIN#. Fails every time with a message saying the ECM has detected out of range parameters. What gives?

I just did a VIN write for a used instrument cluster today.

Did you use all caps for the letters? I don't think it will take lowercase letters, but I could be mistaken.

Also, be careful that you don't put any spaces, and watch out for letters and numbers that look alike. For example, if you put a 5 instead of an S, or the letter o instead of the number 0. 1 vs I, etc.

Yeah, did it with lower case and uppercase. Also, because I did the engineering reset, the CURRENT VIN and ORIGINAL VIN are both a bunch of ??????????????.

Did you write the VIN to a vehicle older than my 2019?

You need the dealer to perform the BCM replace procedure in the RF Hub using the PIN on these 5th gen Ram BCMsin order to marry them to the truck and receive the VIN. There is no other known way to do it. The VIN is not even a writeable value (hence the error).

Also, the BCM has to be brand new, and now since you performed the engineering reset (which put all the question marks in as the current and original VIN), it’ll now be a used BCM and can’t be programmed at the dealership, so it’s basically useless.

If i recall what i once read on this forum
I think the 5th Gens use a 5 digit PIN & common scan tools do not reveal 5 digit pins
