With a 180 t-stat the wifes 6.4 Challenger would run right around 200 to 205 oil temps at 70 mph on a 80F day,and i think those are better oil temps for a 6.4 then 212+. Helps keep the cam / lifters and springs a bit cooler, and gives a bit thicker oil film on the lobes. The 185 is the one i'd run,as the 205 is a bit hot before it hits full flow at 221

Mishimoto also has a nice high flow oil cooler thermostat.

Does your wife's challenger have an external factory cooler? Like the TRX?

Thank you for the insight. What gives me pause is city driving stays cool with factory cooler. Driving 65mph or slower stays under 210°. The time I need this external cooler is when I'm beating on it with multiple WOT pulls or driving 75+ on the Autobahn Arizona loop 101.

I'll think on it more and report back with what I end up with.
75 is the slow lane speed on 101 haha

No it's basically the same set-up as you have with the crappy little oil heater/cooler that Ma Mopar tries to pawn off as an oil cooler, lol. It circulates coolant through the tiny little heat exchanger above the oil filter. The only thing is you can run a decent sized filter on the cars,i run a 20-820 RP filter and Redline 5W-30 in it.It's alot happier on 5W-30 Redline, then it was on 0W-40 PUP and a bottle of LubeGard.I run it just a smidge past full on the dipstick, maybe a 1/4 litre past full.
The cars also use an aluminium front sump pan, which i think helps pull heat out of the oil better then the trucks steel rear sump oil pan
Being in AZ,i'd seriously look at a 180 to 185 oil cooler thermostat if you're gonna run an external oil cooler

This is the one with the 205° I'm thinking.

I'll need to contact them to see what full flow is on the 185° version. My only concern is the oil never getting past 200°

Side thought. Anyone know the specs on the TRX cooler? If it's 185, 200 etc ?

I'd imagine it's the same as their remote thermostat and full flow is about 203F

As far as i know i don't think the 6.2's use a thermostatically controlled oil cooler for their external oil coolers, but i'm not positive about the TRX,it might use a oil thermostat.

You could try a dual filter set-up,like i ran,but i honestly don't think it'll pull enough heat to bring your temps down into the high teens,it's not gonna hurt, but whether it gets your oil temps back to a reasonable temperature i wouldn't know.

Lots of great info here. OP thanks for sharing your experience. Was the oil temp situation ever resolved? I'm super interested in doing the 6.4 swap (truck engine) and plan to tow.

Wild One did your friends with the 6.4 swaps, do anything for their trucks oil temps? Thanks

Not as far as i know they didn't,but their trucks were also 3.21 geared trucks, and the 3.21 gears don't create as much oil heat as 3.92's do. Less rpm=less oil heat
