I was using our 2022 2500 to move 5th wheel around our storage area when I discovered another unwanted / undesireable BIG BROTHER feature . It seems if you have the drivers door open in reverse you cannot backup . The truck just sits there and acts like it's in neutral . Does anybody know of a simple override for this (to me) ridiculous feature ?. Maybe a special fuse or something ? Not likely I am guessing .

This has been a feature for a while. Enacted shortly before the passing of the back up camera law. I personally do not know if a work around.

They want the driver to have as little input as possible.
Watching Tesla auto driving feature mowing down crash test dummies on YouTube is a hoot!

U can also get a clip like this. I keep something similar in my center console. I plug it in when working like out in a field etc and have to back up, get out numerous times. There are just numerous types, and shapes, etc, U would have to see what U want.

CAVEAT: I AM IN NO WAY PROMOTING THAT YOU OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY BYPASSING THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM (legal BS, lol)

Cheapest work around is plug the seatbelt in behind you.The seat belt extenders work good though.

Exactly what I do. Never need to do it for long enough to be worth fussing with an extender. The place the extenders work great is off roading as I never wear a seat belt on trails and back roads.

I have the 5 inch extenders in my truck and never remove them, I clip the belt into the extender and when I remove the belt the extender stays in place. Running around in field and farm roadways with no belt on is just get in and go.
When I get on the road I have to think about it and fasten the belt.
When I get in at the house I fasten the belt to the extender, it is actually easier then using the factory latch.
I'm a big boy and reaching the factory latch can be a pain especially in the winter with coveralls and coats on the extender makes it much easier to belt up then.

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this and I really don't care. But if you need to open the door to back up a trailer, you have no right hauling the trailer in the first place IMO. Any driving school, or any defensive driving class will tell you the same thing. If you can't back up with your mirrors and by looking over your shoulder you shouldn't be hauling a trailer. End of story

^^^ I'll second this
and I'll go one step further for those of you wanting to throw out "you've been backing up trailers for *** many years" ...welp you've been doing it wrong that long.
