Anyone woner how much dirt gets into the fuel system because of rhe lack of a fuel cap? Dirt that a filter should not have to trap

I’ve had two trucks so far with capless fuel fillers. One I was able to purchase a locking cap for, the second I used a rubber pipe cap from the hardware store to cover the filler.

For most drivers it would never matter. But drive all day on wet clay roads and in both cases the cap would be covered in mud or silt. I am not interested in finding out how much dirt the filtration can handle, so that’s what I did.

Must be a diesel thing because I have the 6.4 Hemi and I have a gas cap. Kinda glad I do.

Nope. 4 years and 70K+ miles and not a single issue with it. It's not like it is open to the elements, there are 2 flap closures on it.

The 1500's, specifically DT 5th Gen have capless systems.

Geno's Garage sells caps for both the gas and diesel engines sold by Ram. I had a set (Diesel/DEF) on my previous Ecodiesels and Cummins. I currently have their latest locking Gasoline gas cap on my 2020 1500.

No door interference, no issues, no CEL, locks up tight to keep the neighborhood kids/vandals at bay, and is typical Geno's Garage quality. Just remember to keep the key to unlock it somewhere safe where you can get to it for refueling but other than that it does the job very well. Fits like a glove on the capless system for the Ram 1500 as well as the 2020 Pacifica (perhaps other FCA capless models).

White vehicle is my 2020 Ram
Black vehicle is our 2020 Pacifica

I bought an aftermarket cap for my new diesel and it fits perfectly and had a magnetic end on it so it sticks to the hinge on the fuel door. I was not going to take a chance with no cap. I put it on at the dealership
