That "cubby" you speak of was that on another thread. Is that the "useless " hole' to the right of the radio? That might be a place to put a switch ..seems to me someone addressed that very thing..I will search..thanks Dean2
No what I call the cubby is the drawer that is open in the picture you posted.

Sbannon had the idea of OTRATTW rocker switches in that cubby..going with that rather than the pull out tray..just need some insight of how to get wires up in there. I can drill a hole like he says but a guy will be feeding blind trying to get wires to the switches..any ideas guys?

Dave, take off the radio bezel
up on the top of the dash above the radio
there is a cubby with a rubber tray, remove those 2 screws
Do you have a 110 outlet on the right by the temp controls ?

If not you can grab, the cubby that you removed those 2 screws from & give a semi hard jerk to release the first of several clips around the edges of that bezel.
The radio will not move even a fraction of an inch

watch this short video, if you are unsure about it

Now that that is done, the tray has 4 to 6 screws holding the whole tray unit in place

Also behind that bezel, about where the temp controls are,
there is a power source that you can work with

I mounted the controller for my pedal commander in there. It took alot more effort than it should have. 2 minutes after I was done they started offering a pedal commander with blue tooth.

GTYankee..video was a great help..to the right of the radio dials there is that little cubby where i have 2 switches. The lower portion looks solid. Would you know if that is a place i can cut in or remove. I cannot feel behindIMG_0228.jpg

Again, there is a pocket above the radio screen
there are 2 screws under a rubber pad in that pocket
remove those screws
next grab that pocket with the fingers of both hands are give a healthy jerk, it will be noisy & you may believe that your going to break something, your just popping some darn good clips loose

there are dozens of videos showing how to do it
put some tape over the tip of a straight slot screwdriver to pry with, so that you don't scratch the plastic, if you don't have a plastic pry tool

Once those clips are released, the are only electrical connectors on the backside of the radio bezel

Found a video that explains it much better than words

Yep did all that with success. However I am asking about that cubby to the right where just above it I put 2 switches. Is that a solid plate. I tried a plastic pry tool did not budge. Anyone know if that little cover comes off? What is behind it?

Once you unplug those electrical connectors on the backside of the radio bezel.
You can put it on a bench & break out electric screwdrivers & a Dremel Tool.

I THINK, that there is likely a plastic box, either riveted or screwed onto the backside of the radio bezel.

I have not pulled off the bezel on anything newer than my 2016 Ram
