So, over the winter I am going to be doing some audio in the truck. I am highly considering adding the second battery using the method Dave did. So with having a second battery to power just the audio and lights...would I have any need to run a cap?

I will have 5 10" subs, plus the door speakers.

im liking the sound of 5 10s, that will be great, capacitors are more for stiffening the sound so as long as your electrical is all up to par [big three, alternator upgrade, and good batteries] then there shouldnt be alot of voltage drop depending on the amps you use an alternator and one extra battery may not be big enough, its realy trial and error, kinetik batteries are very good audio batteries if you go with 2 hc1800 with alternator upgrade you might be good, NEED MORE INFO

Generally speaking the truck is only for show purpose. Most events I go to, are indoors and have electric, so the truck would be plugged in. I was also thinking about having the subs on a switch that I could turn off and on.

i wouldnt worry about caps then just the alt and batteries and big three, im going to try just that with my set up and ive got 8 12s but 4 are on a switch all 8 are for demo and compitition the biggest thing is if your amps are not getting propper amps to them they draw more current which causes them to get hot and can fry them right now im still on factory alt and battery and i hook all 8 up for demos, only for a min or two at atime volt meter drops to zero and wires get hot that quik hoping in next week or two il have my new alt and batteries and il let you kno how it works out

dc alternators are pretty good they got i believe its a 250 amp alt for under 600 but that would run all your stuff with two batteries, 5 10s you'll be about 2500 rms plus amp for the doors thats alot of power at shows your pluged in so truck prob wont be running thats where good batteries come into play 2 hc 1800 under hood and one or two hc600 back by the amps would be perfect for shows and demos with truck off

lol your alternator only matters if your running the truck with system going and for charging the bateries your stock is prob the 136 if your not running all the subs while running you can get away with 160-180 amp alt if extra batts are on isolator, at shows or demos and truck is off then you need the batteries to be able to power the amps max wattage on amps dont mean anything rms is what the subs can handle continuously and what the amps push out continuously to figure out how much amprage your total system uses you dived number of rms wattage by 14.4 volts and you get amprage needed to power your system, kinetik batteries are numbered by how many watts the battery can handle so two hc1800 should be able to push 3600 watts of power

if you know what your going to use for audio as far as amps and subs and the amp for the door speakers i can give better idea of whats needed for electrical up grades, are you pulling back seat or making in the bed for show

thats a monster of a set up there! id recomend only 4 subs your gonna need lots of airspace for them subs get the 2ohm dvc then you can wire all 4 down to 1 ohm, it will slam dd is awsome equipment, thats alot of power, when i get some more time il look more at the specs to figure out best electrical set up

I am cutting up my back seat, turning them into two full buckets. The subs will be in a custom center console running from the back seat to the fronts.

If you do a dual battery like dave, you will need an upgraded alternator.

As for powering the audio system, I have learned a few tips doing mine just recently. Upgrade your big three wire connections, use 0/1AWG wire for all power connections. These two things alone allow more voltage to carried in the lines and provide more power for the amps.

As for a capacitor, skip it if your adding a battery. Capacitors are the cheap way of adding a battery to your system. Capacitors are a waste!

So with the upgraded big 3, extra battery and the upgraded alternator you will be setup for power!

Where do you plan on installing 5 10" Subs? What kind of amp are you going to go with? I can give you lots of advice when buying an amp. Make sure its a Class D amp. These amps use a fraction of the power compared to other types of amps.

Edit: Wow 5 of those DD10"s? 750watts rms a peice, your going to for sure need a 250amp alternator.

The dual battery set up will work with the proper isolator on the factory alt.
I ran audio , winch , 4 sets of lights , hi powered cb , and a inverter. Never a issue.
