I am ordering a 2500 crew cab limited with the 6.4 gas hemi engine. I pull a 2 horse gooseneck that when fully loaded with two horses and all gear weighs just under 8,000 pounds. The salesperson is trying to sell me on the auto leveling rear suspension option. Since I did not even know this existed, I was not planning on it. After reading up on it, I just don't see this system as a necessity. Opinions please...

I don't have a HD, so I can't really speak to that system. But my 1500 has air suspension, and it will auto-level when I hook up a trailer. No more dragging a$$ when pulling anything.

Not really necessary, ride is comparable. Advantage is you can lower the rear an 1” or 2” when hooking and lower an 1” to access reaching in the bed. To me not enough to warrant the extra cost. Disadvantage is, if you lose air due to compressor failure or line break/leak, the truck will ride very rough. I know this because a dealer had a new 2500 come in for sale and the compressor was bad. It was like driving with no springs in the rear.
Good luck with your choice.

Agree with Cactusmonkey. I have it on my 2020 3500 and would buy it again.

The "lower the rear an 1” or 2” when hooking and lower an 1” to access reaching in the bed" mentioned above are only minor, unimportant features. Leveling the truck when loaded or with trailer tongue weight of 200-2000lbs is its primary function, and it does it well.

All new owners that I know where Auto Leveling just came on the truck or those who were doubtful when ordering have since said they wouldn't be without it ever again.
