bought a new 2020 about 3 weeks ago, took a few days to get used to the etorque but after that no problem. I always used the shift buttons on my 16 to turn off the mds but the 5th gen is so much smoother don’t have to turn anything off now.

You must have a factory exhaust.

Yea, that’s the only thing about the etorque I don’t like. I want it loud again like my 16 but thinking it would sound lame at the stop lights. But really who puts on an exhaust just for the idle sound? Good thing right now is I’m getting better mpg because I’m not mashing the pedal just to hear the hemi.

I bought a used 21 Laramie back in April after I wrecked my 17 Ram. It has the etorque, which apparently comes with the stupid auto stop feature.

Weird thing is - and maybe it does this on all Rams - but when my AC is on the lowest temperature setting, the auto stop is disabled.

I live in New Orleans, so 90% of the year, the AC is going to be on low. Even at night. So I'd completely forgotten that this truck had auto stop.

Well today, we had a rare cold snap. I turned the AC off, and the first stop light I get to, the truck shuts down.

There was a momentary spike of panic, which brought be back to the days when I drove a hoopty that was constantly dying on me. Then I remembered the auto stop feature.

I guess I'll be getting this auto stop eliminator.

"Why would you do that when you could just push a button to turn it off?"

Because I don't want to have to push a button every time I get in the truck; even if it is only for a few weeks out of the year. And the only reason for this function to begin with is our government's ridiculous CAFE standards which forces car makers to put these unpopular features in their vehicles. And any time I can stick it to the regulation state, I will.

Just out of curiosity, can you not disable the start/stop, or set it to permanently off, with AlphaOBD? Don't have this issue with my 6.4, so never looked myself.

The stop/start system is overridden by the HVAC system for passenger comfort. It's working as designed.

That's a good question. I don't know if it can or not but I suspect it's can't be. Maybe someone with AlphaOBD and a 5th gen with stop/start can answer that one. It's unfortunate that the autostop eliminator is so expensive for what it does. I have the equivalent device on my Audi and it only cost about $15 LOL. I guess not everything for Audi is expensive.

E-Torque and ESE are Linked, but NOT the Same.

I certainly wouldn't mind several of the E-torque benefits, but would never take them as a compromise for having to accept the ESE.

Totally different direction, I bought my '20 in a desperation move since FCA had STILL(!!!) not come out with the TRX, and planned to build my own. The E-torque system is totally incompatible with a supercharger, as the primary equipment takes up the space where a supercharger would sit.

Of course, now they HAVE come out with the TRX, and Whipple has NOT released a kit for the '20 (though why/what is different than the '19 is quite a mystery to me). Still, I feel I made the right decision, since the TRX is only available as a Crew Cab Super Short Bed. Not to mention that the payload and towing capacities have been reduced to mid-sized SUV territory.

@TestPilot57 they have now

Between the MDS crap and auto start stop these newer trucks are getting really annoying. How can this stuff not void warranties? These trucks are all designed a certain way.

It's possible the autostop eliminator could void the warranty if they can prove that caused the failure. I always removed it before taking it in for any service so there's no way for them to even know I had it installed. It leaves no trace that it was ever there when removed.

I’m no fan of the auto start/stop on my 2020 and decided to do something about it. I researched a number of options and decided to go with the Autostop Eliminator because it doesn’t change the system and can easily be removed, if necessary.

I ordered it on Monday using the discount code AUTOVLOG for a 10% discount making it $90 and received it in the mail today. I immediately installed it in less than five minutes. It works as advertised as it was a breeze to install and eliminates the auto start stop. Highly recommended! And no, I don’t work for them, make a penny or get any other form of comp from them other than being a very satisfied customer.

Lots of people have installed these and have used them for years now. You'd find threads about them causing problems if there was an issue with them. If stop/start annoys you just slap down the cash and pick one up. You will not be disappointed.

the auto stop start eliminator was the first mod I put on my Jeep Gladiator. I couldn’t stand the function.

…a long time ago my aunt wanted to use their family car to go shopping. My uncle said no. He said the starter on the car only had so many turns and she wasn’t going to waste one just to go shopping. My uncle was TIGHT with money.

Created an account just to ask this question (don’t attack me please lol)

Question: if you put the ASE on, does that in a way “negate” the etorque battery? Like the eTq battery is what restarts the engine right? So if you put an ASE on does that mean the truck is just running off the 12v? Am I making sense? Or am I rat turded?

I’ve never owned a truck, and I would like to own one, particularly a Ram 1500 (imo the Ram has the best looking truck out - exterior and interior), but I wanted to stay far away from that eTq **** and unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case with the new models…BUT if the ASE keeps the eTq battery from activating the ASS feature THEN the eTq battery/generator should never fail? Right!? Idfk…

No, the Autostop Eliminator does not affect the etorque system at all. It doesn't permanently disable the stock stop/start button, it just makes it keep whichever setting you have it on when you shut the truck off. So you don't have to disable stop/start every time you start your truck if you don't want it active. But you can turn it on with the stock button any time you want.

There is a lot of information out there about etorque if you want to learn more about it. Here's a link to one of them. It's worth the time to watch if you want to know about the system...
