Hey guys. Figured id share the end product of my Sunday afternoon project. Got tired of my cables for my radar and dash running all over the place for my radar detector. Decided to tap power for them and add a USB power point as well.
Here's the end result.
Nice and clean now. 99486b1105bf8ed976da7ee4c6b99567.jpg7b4943d0c71f514cc657a98797e438c6.jpge982fcefbd97a1c935be6376e78cbac0.jpg

I used this end https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/132773264901 soldered the wires and used two 4.3k ohm resistors and ran my ground. I'm not sure if someone makes a kit or not for it. Maybe I should. [emoji57]
I grabbed it off mirror power. I Beleive it was tan and red, it's the one to the left of the black, that one is key on power for my radar detector and the dash cam one was I a red with yellow strip for constant on if I remember correctly.

Good idea. I never like having wires all over the place.

I haven't used a radar detector in years now, but back when I did, I read that they work better when mounted as low in the windshield as possible. I kept mine low, but also mounted it on the drivers side of the vehicle, which I don't think was ideal either. Kept it nice and clean looking with the wires running into the pillar instead of across the dash.

Hey guys. So a few of you wanted a write up on how I did the usb plug in the mirrior. It's quick and short with few pictures but it's straightforward enough I think.

First off the mirror is a royal pita the get the plastic off. Search on Google or forum how to do this. Second I don't have any links but get an ebay usb plug and a 12v to 5v buck converter. Disassemble the mirrior plastics and unplug the plug that's in the mirrior. Then find the pink and yellow wire, this is the 12v key on power wire. You'll wire in the Imput power from your buck converter to this. Next find the black wire on the plug and wire the negative Imput of your converter to it. Find where you want to mount the USB plug I'll circle where I reccomend and mount it. I used hot glue to hold it in place it's easy but strong and no one sees that part. Once this is done wire in power and ground from your buck converter to the usb plug, use ur multimeter to dial the voltage to 5v once you're there put it back together and you're done. If you want constant power from this wire into either the dark blue light green wire or the light green/ dark blue wire. Double check which one has power with the key off. Done two trucks like this and they were both different constant power on.
Hope this is useful to you guys. 4466143d450cb74bbcfd282e74f32172.jpg

@Brandon-w I'm glad it's not just me that had problems getting that mirror cover off. I pulled it off a while back to see if I had the auto dimming headlight module. I thought I was going to break the damn thing lol

Great write up btw!!

Hey Todd, my truck is a 2015 ram 1500. It's rather easy. Worst ya can do is screw it up. [emoji1787] But seriously it's rather simple and I'd say if you're running a 5v dash cam its a must have.
