I think air pressure when empty and loaded along with tire rotation every 7500 miles helps tire life, I always rotate my back tires straight to front and cross front to rear... Some times I was told that was the wrong way to rotate my tires, in fact when I moved to the west coast had a Service manage at one dealer tell me in 30 years he has never had anyone request tires to be rotated that way, he did not understand why I would want it done that way o_O ...
Rearward cross is the way to go I agree. I am surprised the guy you mentioned didn’t know that is the preferred way for a rear wheel drive and a lot of pickups spend majority of their life in 2WD mine included. I do X pattern on my wife’s Yukon XL as it is AWD.

I should also say my Ram I bought used and the tires had something like 45,000 on them already and some of those miles were with warn out shocks. I replaced the shocks when I got it but they were already cupped and chopped pretty bad on the shoulders. I could have ran them longer wear wise but hated the vibrating ride.

This is interesting/disturbing. I've been running them on my 2011 since I tossed my Goodyears. A little bit of noise, but pretty good gas mileage, and very good grip for plowing and/or washboard roads. I drive about 25k a year, and replace them every two years, so ... higher level math ... I get 50k out of them with little trouble. I had a razor knife through one, and a couple leaky valve stems, but I don't think I would blame them on the tires. I'm going to roll the dice and order another set soon. I'll let you know if the ones I get work OK.

Mine are Discoverer AT's (was told they are identical to the AT3's, but molds were changed just for Walmart).

In another 2k miles, I will have put 70k miles on them.

Not bad for a 55k rated tire.

Especially having paid just shy of $700 for the set, with lifetime balance and road hazard.

Those are a great deal. They are not severe service rated either but with how much you save getting them I am cool with that. I was going to get those for my Ram but never in stock on the 18s it seems like. I have them on my 79 F250 and had them on 09 Silverado 2500.
