Awful gas mileage: 2024 RAM Rebel GT

So I owned a 2014 RAM Laramie for 6 years and decided to upgrade to a 2024 Rebel GT because it is the last v8 ram will produce for a half ton. I LOVED my 2014 but decided I could get max value you for it right now so it all seemed like the perfect storm and the smart decision. I got a legit 19/23 gas mileage with the 2014.

Theeeen I switched this 2024 RAM rebel GT…. What an amazing truck and engine and sound!! BUT AWFUL GAS MILEAGE!!!!

I am getting 11/14 unless I baby it a ton.

I am curious if anyone has any advice for me?

I have only had it for 300 miles. I’ve driven it 5 days. I am looking into possible performance chips, tunes, etc. recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I signed up for 18/22 NOT 11/14 mpg.

Thanks so much for any all all recommendations. Might just be something I have to swallow at this point. At least gas rates are going down but this is wildly different than advertised.

You don't buy this truck for the fuel efficiency. If you want that, go buy a Prius *sheepish grin*

Full size truck with a hemi V8 and you are expecting 18 city 22 highway lol doesn’t the rebel have bigger heavier tires and a little lift as well?…hemi does not spell good fuel economy. My window sticker said 15 city 21 highway I believe for my 2022 classic crew cab 6’4” box with the 5.7 and 3.92 gears. I laughed at that and didn’t believe it at all. If you look online in the * section it states a 4x2 vehicle for estimated MPG…they probably also left out the words regular cab, and 3.21 ratios lol. I get 14-16 mixed driving depending on summer / winter so far. I will never see 20 mpg.

I was surprised that after 4 pages no one mentioned the "Winter" fuel effect... I have a 22 Rebel GT, and I know that during the winter months, I get on average 1.5-2 MPG less than during the summer months.

Winter blend only dropped my average MPG by 1...to 14 MPG overall. Summer was 15 MPG average overall.

Even if I went easy on it I was only in 16 MPG overall territory.

2019 Big Horn. No lift. No big tires. No eTorque. But I did have a lot of options packages including the Off-Road Group and 4WD.

I didn't buy it for gas mileage but, at 25K+ miles per year and $5-$6+ per gallon my wallet finally cried uncle.

2024 Rebel G/T with 2300 miles. I’m averaging 13.8mpg. With that said, I remote start my truck for a few minutes every time just to get the juices flowing. I also permanently disabled the auto start/stop which drives me crazy. I’m assuming the G/T and Rebel combination has some performance tune compared to stock tune. The window sticker wasent even close, lol.

I think it's styling and option differences. I think the G/T gets a "performance look" with styling and an actual shifter handle but doesn't have any special tune.

The only 5th gen 1500 with a special/performance tune (other than Tow/Haul) that I know of is the TRX.

My 2021 2500 with the 6.4, Off Road package, aggressive tires, and the 3.73 rear end gets as good overall as what you guys are talking about, and I drive pretty aggressively. I bought all that power to use it. If you are getting worse mileage than this out of a 5.7 in a 3000 pound lighter pickup then I would say, either too much idling or a lot of heavy use of the skinny pedal.

Glad you get good mileage. I have the same thing as you, except mine is a 2019 and it gets 13 on a good day!!

The issue is the duratrac tires. They rob the mileage. I had the stock 20in sra's on my 2018 outdoorsman and got an avg of 13L/100kms. Switched to 20in KO2 and avged 14L/100kms. 18in Durtracs were worse at 16L/100kms. Michellin LTX 20in were the best at 10.5L/100kms. All of these were over 30-40k kms over winter and summer months and all using 91 octane gas. My new 2023 rebel with the stock 18in duratracs over the last 2000kms (all it has on it so far) avgs 15L/100kms in spring weather.

When I was looking at the trucks all of the window stickers had 12L/100kms as the avg. From a base tradesman to the rebel, all with the same engine.

I have posted the milage on my 2500 in the last few days, the Duratracs have not seemed to have a negative effect and I run them year round now.

Not bad for a 2500 6.4.

Just got a '23 Big Horn with the 32" tires on 20" wheels. I was thinking of moving up to a 33". Thought the more I read these threads, makes me want to stay at 32". Especially since I plan to tow with it. Might just do a 32" AT tire and aftermarket wheels.

I'm lucky to see 11 mpg average in my PW. Dont drive it much so it seems like I'm always towing something during a tank of fuel. My 1500 used to avg 16 to 18, easy low 20s on the hwy.

Ram totally lies on their mileage. I have a 2024 V6 etorgue that they say will get 19-24. I live in south jersey, it’s flat. My commute is short but it’s 50-50 city/hwy, 3,100 miles on it and right now my average is 16.5. It should be 20-21. I love the truck, the V6 is smooth, but they just flat out lie about the mileagr

What speed do you cruise at? How much of you tank is spent in top gear?
In my experience these two factor make a big difference.

You would need a tuner with an unlocked computer. If you're just getting one for gas mileage I would save your money since it would take a lot of miles to ever recoup the cost, if you ever would.

This is the absolute truth right there. Do the math.

I have a 24 1500 with hemi, .321, and just 1200 miles. Using 10% ethanol, getting exactly 22mpg highway at 63mph.
Your 392 should not cost you more than 2mpg tops. If you have non factory tires, that could explain it.
Unless you are running over 65mph, something is wrong and you should have the dealer check it.

what mpg are you seeing on yours combined? i am running 87 and was thinking of adding a fuel additive......thoughts?

Not a lot to gain with fuel additives in newer vehicles with all the sensors and computers to adjust things on the fly. Long gone are the days of advancing the timing a bit on Friday afternoon and dumping some octane boost in a fresh tank of gas to go cruisin'.

It's about the same price (if not cheaper) to use Top Tier 91 octane for pretty much the same results IMO.

Town/Freeway mix 15.7 to 16.0mpg freeway 22 if I keep it at or below 65, if I go over 70, it’s 17 MPG

I own a 2022 Ram Rebel G/T and average about 15-16 mpg when driving it "gently". However, like others have said, it is such a fun truck to drive I usually stay around 14mpg. When I travel on the highway I can squeak out 18 being very conservative but that is the best I have gotten. However 2 years and 50,000 miles later and I do not regret my purchase one bit. This has been the best and most fun truck I have driven. Going to hold on to it for a long time since she has the Hemi and you won't find them anymore.

What's your average speed on a normal day,if most of your traveling speeds are 70+ mph,the 3.21's will be your better choice,if most of your daily speeds are under that,then the 3.92's are livable.
I went from 3.21's to 3.55's and the first drive on the local freeway where speeds average 80+ mph and i wished i hadn't swapped the 3.21's out for 3.55's. Gas milege took a noticable hit,and my oil temps also went up,if i hadn't had a couple grand invested into the 3.55 geared diff with a true trac / welded in place Illicet relocation brackets etc.,i would of stuck the 3.21 diff back under the truck
