Afternoon folks. Anyone have a general explanation as to why on a 2016 9.25 rear end, the right axle shaft is generally $2-250 higher? They both have reluctor rings, both have to have the c-clip notch and the right one is actually a bit shorter.
I had a wheel bearing fail and ate into the axle so like an idiot went on a website that everyone is familiar with their jingle… got a kit for around 160. USA standard gear which is Yukon seconds, seemed very cheap but volume equals savings.
Less than 4,000 miles later a second bearing fails, also eating the axle. This time the cage was broken and the rollers fell out when I pulled the axle. Perfect!
The amount of debris in my housing is impressive actually, so I’m not even going to pursue warranty.
Looking all around and all I can find are genuine mopar or Yukon or G2 but the head scratcher is the difference.
Sorry for the length but if you’re still here I want to thank you in advance for any insight or a direction to a secret source. Not even any junk yards near me have an axle so new it will have to be.

Yep, good question. Pulled them up on Rockauto and Mopar was about $150 more for the right side, and Dorman was about $100 more.

Supply issues?? (all I can think of)

Curious if youre you running larger tires? What wheel bearings did you use (the one that failed)?

Thx

I am not, the OEM bearing initially failed at 103k. The bearing that lasted less than 4,000 miles was USA standard gear that came in the kit I bought at auto.

Yeah, that's a bummer. Probably a real unfortunate fluke. I've had great luck with bearing replacements. But my day is probably coming. Are the rest of the gears ok?

.

Seem to be, I’m going to take it completely apart to flush the housing and make sure the carrier bearings are ok.
