Tips: Decided to make a tip thread since there are plenty of install videos on YouTube and the included instructions are clear. These steps are to be used before installing the rail clamps.

1. In order to get the rails to properly fit, you must cut the drop in plastic cover near the cab and on the tailgate just a bit to get a proper seal, otherwise you'll have a gap which would leak.

2. The plastic is thick, so a dremel or torch and sharp razor will be needed.

3. Place rail and outline wear you need to cut using painters tape or a visible marker.

4. To prevent damage (scratches and cutting into the bed), pull up and pull back on the liner near the cab to give yourself clearance to cut the liner.

Review: Overall satisfied with my purchase. The package comes with pretty good instructions and i was able to do everything on my own in the garage. The MX4 provides a secure, weather resistant, and stylish finish. The one feature that caught my attention is... this the only hard tri-folding tonneua cover that allows you to close the tailgate without lifting the last section. The last few pictures shows how cover seal against the tailgate. There are 3 strips of weather stripping that seals to the tailgate when you close it.

Thanks, but I only had it for a few days. Most hard tonneau covers are the same as for as style, design and functionality goes. I was actually was about to buy a UnderCover Flex but the shop told me that the MX4 was about to be available. Wasn't interested into it until he showed me a video and I saw the guy close the tailgate while the cover was fully down. The superior UV and scratch resistance kinda got to me too since I live in Vegas. Also, the matte finish since all the other ones was glossy and wasn't as smooth.

not entirely true. its the only hard cover made by bakflip where this is possible, but there are other brands out there that allow you to close the tailgate without lifting the tonneau.

i do like my mx4 though for the most part.

undercover has one as well. It just went on sale recently however, so maybe when you were looking, it wasnt available yet. its looks almsot identical to the bakflip one pictured above.

how does the bakflip stay in the upright position? Doest it lean against the back of the cab like their other models or did they finally go with the struts to lock it in the upright postion when you need the entire bed?

It leans against the cab and have the struts to lock it in place.

interesting, i figured they would have finally gone with the undercover's way of holding it up, where the struts lock it in place without leaning on the cab. Thats one of the reason i bought the undercover. Eitheway, i like these new designs without having to lift the final flap to close the tailgate

Oh wow I didn't know bakflip made one where you could close the gate with it down! My dad has the regular bakflip and honestly I hate it. If it gets iced up and you can't open it than you can't close your tailgate! The thing I love is being able to flip it up to the window when loading a four wheeler. Might have to buy the mx4 to replace my soft tri fold!

Please update us after the winter. So far I have gone through one winter with my tonneau cover and everytime it reached minus 10 degrees Celsius or colder my cover would freeze to tailgate and I'd be stuck chipping at it slowly trying to open it. Gotta find a better cover!! Hopefully yours works good in the winter

I feel you, that was the main reason I was about to purchase the Undercover Flex, like how it stood vertical without leaning against the cab. After I thought about it, I would never ride with the cover in the full open position so that issue was solved.

I live in Vegas, my winter experience will definitely be a lot different. That does sound like an annoying problem tho. Hopefully someone else in a colder climate will be able to report how they are in the winter.

One thing about the Bakflip, is that if you have a cargo camera, you can then see the bed when the tonneau is folded against the window.
It does not work with the undercover flex.
We will be moving to a cold state, and I am interested in hearing more about the cover freezing to the tailgate.

I had a Bacflip on both my previous trucks and they never froze up in the winter.
I live in Alberta Canada and we have 5 months of winter including many days colder then -20.

The truck I bought a year ago I went with the Bac Revolver, I regret it as it leaks water front and back, freezes up in the winter sometimes, the Bacflips never leaked.
