Hi, I see there has not been an answer yet here, probably for a reason. As an owner of a 4.7, having dealt with a hand full of the common text book 4.7 problems, the best thing you can do for your 4.7 is sell the truck with the 4.7 in it and get a similar one with a hemi.

I love my truck because the body is in great shape and knew nothing about the heritage if you can glorify it that much regarding this 4.7. I have put a lot in to my 4.7 but still monitor oil pressure and do not trust it, even though the oil pump was replaced.

You can replace it with a crate motor that has all the errors fixed, but probably less expensive and less headache to just trade it. Sorry for the grim outlook but this is from experience.

If your gonna keep the 4.7 get a chip. That will give you the most performance for your $$.

Thanks for the?e replies,,and although I'd love a 4 door with a Hemi. ,,I'm married to this one. My sister gave me this truck,,its a old retired police truck, complete with push bar and spot lights,,it was a Texas state hiway patrol unit. It runs great and with only a little over 66,000 miles I feel it will last a long time properly cared for,,I guess I'll do a y pipe and a decent muffler and call it a day,,thanks again for your time.

A set of gears would be a good start. But that would hurt your highway mileage. Then you could move on to the tuners and cold air intakes. Followed by headers. I'm not sure what brands support the mods for the 4.7 trucks though.

If your wanting more pick up and performance. Adding a set of 4.10 or even a set of 4.56 gears would greatly improve your performance. But they would definitely hurt your fuel mileage in the highway. And if your 4x4 you will have to double the cost of the investment.

3.55 gears are horrible for performance. Especially with a 4.7. That's why people keep telling you about 4.10 or 4.56 gears

How hard and expensive is it to change out these "gears" you all keep referring to

If you have to ask, then you should probably grab a buddy that is in to this stuff and buy him a 6 pack and a big mac to help you out. You will need gear lube and a gasket for the cover also.

Indeed my buddy is this place, could you maybe point me into the direction that I need to start and from there I will read myself sick until I too can change such madness from the side of the highway to hell

Two options, install/get installed replacement gears into your existing rear or find a junkyard one that already has those gears (cheaper but unless you buy it from some you trust you don't know the maintenance history or condition).

missed this dont get on much but i have had just about every bolt on for the 4.7 if you look at my mod list to see what can be done to the motor. on a 5-speed i would start with gear 4.10 if you do alot of highway driving 4.56 if you dont follow that with a 2008 intake will make a good start. you ask about the y it will help but if you havent done anything else with the exhaust it wont help much
