just curious. Iv heard of this problem and did some reading/research on it. cant find much of anything that seems trustworthy. it seems that it is a problem form the past and no longer an issue, but seem like a good question to ask... a lot of the time the pictures of the "blowouts" are of worn out tires that look like they are on borrowed time.

what do you know about this?
the K02's are still on my top 4 list for a new set this fall.

I too had them on my short list for new tires in the Fall.....I have read reviews on the NEW KO2 that did not like i.e. quicker wear, softer side walls, etc...keepp in mind this is all online reviews, so take it for what its worth.
I am 95% sure I have decided on Duratrac's though.
Aside from the reviews, I think the the DT look better than the KO2's.....never been a big fan of the KO tread pattern, that the KO2's have with just a better side wall.
DT are more money, but if I buy on sale, they should be closer in costs.

BFG had it too. just not it the same way. google it.

EDIT: as far as I know there it was never a lawsuit. just lots of complaints is all. enough to raise an eyebrow.

I just cant swallow a "off road/AT" designed tire that only has a 2 ply side wall that has proven to be thin. not for our HD TRUCKS anyhow.

EDIT: I saw first hand the duratac next to the K02 and the K02 had a nice and thick sidewall that was stiff. the duratrac sidewall was so thin I was disgusted and offended at the same time. it looks like a passenger CAR highway tire sidewall.

Old BFG's may have had some issues but I believe (don't quote me on it) they changed the construction of their tires and rubber a few years back and are a great tire. I'm not a Fan of the all terrains but they make a great mud terrain and sports car tire.

mind if I ask the mileage on the tires and how old they were?

Around 30-35k and they were 3-4 years old IIRC. That being said I have the newer style ko's on my current truck as I've had several sets of bfg's and this was my one bad experience. This was a really bad experience though, this happened on the highway at around 75 mph while I was passing people in the passing lane, during rush hour. Was able to control it and get over to the right side to pull over.

Also those were 35x12.50x15

My father in law works on a pipe line in Texas. There fleet of trucks had these tires (new ones too) and he has seen 4 blow outs. The fleet has since changed tires.

The official word was the tires they were using were not designed for the roads they drive on so they wouldn't do anything about them.

I know there were a problem in the past, but some of the new ones have the thread just come off as the rest of the tire looks fine.

I think you being a 1500 - if you want them.. you should be good.

nevermind, see you're a 3500..

I wouldn't touch them.

Strapt Performance: Carli Suspension - The "Death" of Death Wobble

"
One manufacturer we recommend avoiding is BF-Goodrich. Their AT/KO all terrain tires and KM2 Mud terrains have been known to cause death wobble in the heavy-duty Ram Trucks. They’re a great tire but seem better suited to the light truck and independent front suspension application. Although they come in a 10-Ply, E-Rated tire, we find their sidewall strength doesn’t pair well with the demands of the heavy duty Dodge and Ford trucks and, as mentioned above, sidewall strength is equally as important to consider as tread construction when selecting tires for your 8,000lb. vehicle."

to be fair, that article is a few years old and BF goodrich has since re-designed some of their tires. for what its worth i have bf goodrich m/ts on my dually. no issues. been a great tire so far.

I had two sets of the old style AT/KO on an old 1/2 ton truck and never had any problems.

Love my BFGs

I had some old ko1 on my 2000 4x4 Ram forever....probably longer than I should have, and had no problems. Just put some KO2's on and they look great I think. I really like the ride in them. I am going to put some KO2's on my 2015 Ram 4x4 as soon as I wear the stock tire.

I don't know. I have sent him a text.

Last time I was over at the house, I almost want to say he has Michelin's... but don't hold me to that.

He is actually there now. Months at a time. Gotta suck.
