Had a quick question. With the Bilstein 6112 in the front, is there any discernible ride quality difference if the perch is set to 1.6 or 2.0 lift?

What are all the settings on the 6112s?

just curious what their range is compared to the 5100s.

No sure about the OP’s original question - I’m having mine set to 2.0” when they get installed Monday. Never tried 1.6”.

Here’s the table of ride heights depending on configuration from the install guide.

That was the same table that I was looking at. I guess really the question would also be applicable to the 5100 shocks. Just didn’t know if there was a difference as far as ride quality if I dropped it down to 1.6. Right now I have 2.75 inches of rake. Was considering going to 2.0 but my wife does not want the truck to ride too firm. Have to appease her as well.

I doubt you will notice any big differences in ride with those setting, its really only when you start going towards 2.4 and up.

The difference is nil.

Setting the ring height does not set any pre-load on the spring and does not affect the shock dampening at all. The spring will sit and inch, or 2, or whatever higher on the shock because of the ring. When it is assembled the spring is compressed the same amount as if it were lower on the shock and the shock still has the same travel due to the design.

All that it does is sets the spring up higher and uses the body of the shock as the 'spacer' which the spring sits on. The shock still has the travel required up and down and there is no more or no less resistance due to it's adjustment.

Source : me. I had the 5100's on a setup and adjusted the height multiple times. The spring compression stayed constant with the shocks ability to compress and expand at all ring heights when installed on the vehicle.

Any difference is a perceived difference that the driver has in their head.

Must be the roads then as I sure feel a difference between 2.1 and 1.4 on my 5100's on my 2014. Sure looks like every setting changes spring preload to me and don't know why it wouldn't be called preload being thats what its doing. 1.4 absorbs much more of the road imperfections than 2.1. 2.1 you could feel the poor job the asphalt rollers did on the state highway by anyone that rode in the truck on a stretch of RT9. I switched them to 1.4 and you could not feel any of what people noticed at 2.1 so I know its not my imagination. I did not go through the added work installing a 1.5" body lift to get 3" of lift on this 2017 because I felt like it just to get about 3" of lift

I went with circlip location #5 on a regular cab for 2.4 inches. I love the ride as it is a little more firm, but more controlled.

I Purchased mine from Amazon, however I spoke to shock surplus prior to installation. They did say that any of the rings are preload for the spring. The lower the collar, the less preload. There probably isn’t much difference between 1.6 and 2.0 however I chose that position based on less preload, better CV angles and no issues with transmission. I’ve read where some people have had issues going into four-wheel-drive and didn’t want any issues. I probably could have gone to 2.0 but I am happy with where I am today. I appreciate the input.
