Depending how you drive it, I would wager the tune would only help you if you have better rpm's throughout the gear. Think of an engine like a camp fire, when the fire burns strong there is less soot, or in the engines point of view, less stuff in the oil. In the CA version of the Cummins, they purposely had the engine less efficient for "smog" reasons, so more stuff ended up in the oil, and they cut the interval in half for this model compared to the HO non CA edition.

Can't believe I haven't seen this thread in the past ...

My truck 2014 Ram 1500 QC 4X4 5.7L Hemi , 6speed xsmn , .355 diffs.

I tow pretty regular typically under 3k lbs sometimes weekly ( boat & fishing gear ) I've towed medium wts 6-8k lbs several times as well ..so all my UOA's have some towing .

Here's my latest Blackstone Labs UOA .
This one is Redline oil , a 50/50 mix of 10W-30 & 5W-30 .

The first one On the far right ( 8k) was Redline 5W-30

The second one (6k) was a 50/50 mix of Redline 0W-40 & 5W-30

The third and 4th one was the same oil , I just took a short uoa I was tracking the iron levels . This was Redline 5W-30.

The 5th one (2100 miles) was a 50/50 mix of PUP 5W-30 & 0W-40 PUP. I changed it only because I had developed a very faint tick tick tick sound at idle ...cold and hot so I opted to dump it early and go back to Redline oil ....

The final UOA , as stated above is a 50/50 mix of Redline 10W-30 & Redline 5W-30 oil .
The iron and copper is continuing to drop in my 5.7L Hemi on Redline and my engine is incredibly smooth and quiet .

The filter for all the Redline oils have been the RP 10-48 , I used the WixXP filter for the short PUP run .

This time I changed my oil to a full 7 qts of Redline 10W-30 coupled with the larger RP 20-820 Filter . So far about a thousand miles and all is well and EXTREMELY smooth and quiet .

I started using Redline oil at just under 20k total miles , after the "free" dealerships oil changes . My 5.7L was very loud on the junk dealer oil and at a drive through I'd have to speak loudly and repeat my order !

It took about 750 - 1,000 miles for Redline to quiet the engine ....wish I had never done the free dealer oci's ...

Interval going up, wear going down = good thing

Only negative I would see with a tuned engine is the air fuel being commanded. If they richen it up too much (more power) the fuel could contaminate the oil more as it gets past the rings.

I find the 50/50 mix of 10w30 and 5w30 interesting. It’s been known not to exceed 5w30 on the MDS systems. Stock is 5w20 so bumping it to 5w30 is usually the max people will go. But a 50/50 of 10w30 and 5w30 would be what a 7w30? Have you knoticed any increases in oil pressure by a few psi? I don’t think it’s enough to measure as it was like u went to 20w50 or something. But I hate running such thin oils, but tighter bearing clearances requires it. But I still feel like the FCA does it just to bump fuel economy.

I do get a couple more psi indication on oil pressure when cold , but the oil pressure is the same at operating temps of 190° oil temp and up.
I mixed in the 10W -30 because I've read the 10W Redline had a bit more Molybdenum, phosphorus ,Zinc and calcium ....looks like it really only boosted my calcium ppm ?
As far as the MDS goes I've ran a 50/50 mix of 5W-30 and 0W-40 twice , one with Redline and one with PUP . I experienced Zero MDS issues at all and the engine was actually the smoothest and quietest on the Redline 40wt mix with the cSt viscosity of 12. something . I noticed no decrease in mpg and the MDS kicks in as ussual. The oil psi was pretty much the same as my 10W mix .

I'm jealous on that, nice,. And folks btw, that was a ticking hemi prior to redline. Looks like once you find the right oil that kills tick instead of make your truck tick, all falls into line.

Glad to see your copper coming down and the iron is great for a previous ticking hemi . Especially for a low miles Hemi.
Strong TBN as well .
Not bad for a cold winter run and some towing .

Here is my original post from February. I had the moderator delete the other post as it had my name, address and email in it....not sure what I was thinking:

QSUD 5w30, Wix xp oil filter, filter mag magnet, 4800 miles. Ran this oil over double the miles over the last oil fill and wear numbers continue to drop. This oil report will be my last QSUD fill, it will be Amsoil from now on. Change my oil filter selection to M1 from wix due to the defective oil filters I got from Wix. Iron is way down from the universal average, and copper is down with double the miles on the oil. I'm happy with this report.

Got this in today. RP 20-820 filter. Next is going to be the same setup just going to add a filter relocation kit to make it easier.

Here is the last report I had on my old 2015 2500 6.4L. First four were the factory fill and Pennzoil Platinum 0W-40. Last report I threw caution to the wind and ran a full synthetic 5W-30 in it as thought experiment and had no issue with it.

It’s not blackstone but oil analyzers.

Amsoil SS 0w-20 with over 10,300 km and EAO filter. Oil had not been changed in over a year and the oil change indicator went to 0 so I sampled the oil.

Forgot to add, the high metals is probably from the very low mileage. Bought the truck from a 80 year old. He didn’t drive it.

Fixer, even though that is a nice report, I believe the oil is a bit too thin for your engine and longevity. Our 04 grand Cherokee with the 4.7 went over 230000 miles with M1 5/30. Just my 2 cents.
