Just got back my uoa that I did with RL 0w30. The uoa from December 2020 is Rl 5w30 and these were done back to back. Same mileage and both with RP filter. Ran the 0w30 well into summer as I didn't want to dump it after 3000 miles.

I note to blackstone that this oil had more idle time than the last sample but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I remote start alot in winter. Also sit for work time to time. Going to track engine hours going forward but I was happy with this uoa. 2017 ram with the 5.7. Don't tow and barely haul but I drive it like I stole it. View attachment 467238

Great work thanks for sharing. 0w30 redline is a rare uoa in redline, looks fantastic. You can see it is a full point lower in visc at 6k miles, thus why hemiman doesnt prefer it for towing, but it looks perfect man. considering how much better it is then 5w20. I'd say some potential as a year round oil for some guys.

Thanks for posting. I wish we could get CCV so we could compare the cold viscosity. Notably, the running temp viscosity is significantly lower for the 0W-30 @ 11.00 cSt compared to 12.15 cSt for 5W-30.

Just more validation not to run that 0W-30 during hot summer months under loads (trailers, etc.).

What do you run when towing hemiman?
My hemi is still too young to really have a meaningful uoa. Only 60,000km. I will probably send one at 80,000km. So another year or year in a half. Been on a steady diet of PUP5w30 here in Ontario. The cold doesn't seem to bother it much.

I ran FCA recommended PUP 0W-40 until I joined this forum. Have since switched to Red Line 5W-30. I read most of the stuff on here, asked @Burla & others some questions, made a spreadsheet of all the motor parameters I could find, studied them, and the answer became quite clear to me.

I have the 6.4L Hemi truck engine, btw.

Here’s my latest report on Amsoil Signature Series 5w20 with their 15,000 EA filter. 6,100 miles and pretty much a full year. Oil life meter was down to 29%. Previous oil was PUP 5w20 and a Wix XP filter.

@corneileous - thanks for sharing.

Is the latest (amsoil) SP or SN+? Previous two (PUP) SN? The current sample has reduced calcium and boosted magnesium, boron, moly. Seems like an LSPI API SP additive strategy.

Uhhhh…. I guess….lol. It’s whatever they sell. I really don’t know other than it was just the regular Amsoil Signature Series 5w20 and the regular ole Pennzoil Ultra Platinum/Premium 5w20. I know the boosted moly is good but is the reduced calcium/boosted magnesium and boron good?

Original SP recipes I recall having higher wear metal issues, just like the first low SAPS diesel CK-4 oils. It's why the moly has become critical to add for poorly lubricated and/or highly loaded engines.

Got my UOA results, this was my second run of qsud 0w20 and 15oz lubegard biotech. They left out the 20 and lubegard so i edited that in to the form.

Thanks for sharing. Good report. I'd agree the copper isn't of concern as the iron is nice and low, and engine is newer.

If your QSUD was API SN, beware changes to SN+ / SP. They have to reformulate the antiwear additives.....we are looking for comparison reports. Typically SN+ / SP drop calcium way down and increase boron and magnesium. There is debate whether this tradeoff provides the same level of antiwear protection. Watch the iron count.

Looks incredible, copper is nothing engine too young anyhow. That makes the low iron that much more impressive. Oil is pretty thin, and I'd expect more tbn at 5k miles, looking forward to seeing next one.

I was 10 months on that oil also if that makes any difference.
Truck is quiet, maybe even more with the 5w30.

As far a thin, that is oil very stable no matter how long in months it was used, I'd wager it was close to that thin in the beginning of your interval. I guess we will have to wait 10 months to get the uoa on the 5w30, but looking forward to it.

Looks great, I'm not sure why blackstone said go up to 12k miles without tbn, I would take exception to that. Stay at 10k if you want to go higher then get tbn for 10 bucks. I'm not sure you can get a 10k interval in a 5.7 better then that. Thanks for posting.
