Just got my report back from Black Stones Labs on the Amsoil Signature 5W20 I ran. Decided I wanted to put the 1 year/25,000 mile synthetic to the test.

So I ended up with closer to 13 months on the oil due to being out of town, I believe this was my second oil change (1st was a syn through the dealership) and put the Amsoil in at around 4500mi July 2013 and changed first week of August 2014. Put a total of 5385 miles on the oil in that year and the truck was sitting at 9885 mi on the evic. Filter was the Amsoil matching 1yr/25k EAo11 that I kept on for the entire time as well.

Not sure if I want to go for another full year since I filled with the same stuff but will get another report after the next change. Also I think the SILICONE levels may have been a little high due to the Air Grabber filter not seating correctly, been checking more frequently to re-seat the filter.

I have a Chevy govt work truck that I put about 14k a year on out of state, so my Ram gets neglected for 7mo and a hard start up every other month. Good thing with Amsoil is the moly is up there and left the parts coated better than the factory oil.

Yeah, those wear numbers are not indicative of the quality of the oil, most if not all Rams are showing high copper and iron. I bet if you ran 5w30 those numbers would be way lower. Your additives and Moly levels as well and tbn and in great shape, and I wouldn't worry about the wear numbers. Just a product of soft metal parts and being forced to use 5w20. I don't think that tbn will reach 25k, looks like 15 to 18k. That 25k rating is really for trucks used a lot, that is easier on the oil then sitting so much.

BTW, if that was my truck I would run it another year on that oil or maybe 24 months total and send the sample in again. Thanks for sharing. Silicone and Boron is something Amsoil uses in their oil, so that is very normal.

Thanks for the input on the silicone, I was worried when I read on the second page that silicone could be caused by airborne contaminants and seeing that I hadn't seated the filter all the way. I may just try your suggestion on the 24 month interval, what are your thoughts on the filter?

Change the filter and top off for sure, then cut it open. You will see for yourself how it is doing. If it is stiff then it isn't filtering, if it is pliable then it is still working.

Yeah I almost cut this one open but had the truck in the garage and the wife's car right behind it and had the angle grinder just about on the filter before I started thinking about what kind of mess I was about to make so I slowly backed the grinder away, lol. I appreciate the advice and for sure am going to cut the filter open next time to comment on that, maybe in a vice with a hacksaw so I don't coat my white paint.
