Blend door?

Bought truck about a month ago, 2017 Tradesman 6.7 3500, 30k miles.

Have noticed that even though I don’t change the temp dial settings, sometimes the heat will blow cooler than normal. I can always turn dial for more heat, but thought that was odd. It’s never been an issue where I don’t have heat just trying to figure out if it’s the start of a blend door issue that I need to look into. Dial setting is in heat mode, lower end of heat range but definitely not in the blue.

Operating temps have been same range, just yesterday added a winter cover.

the temp blend door doesn't auto adjust for the leaving air temperature, the colder it gets outside the cooler the leaving air will be. This will be more noticable when the temperature dial is set on the cooler side.
Keep in mind that diesel hemorrhage heat fairly quickly and if your not working that CTD you've got a big block of iron to keep warm, the winter front will help.
I'm not sure if your Tradesman has the 8.4 radio w/7 spd blower, if so adding the ATC to your truck is an easy mod.

Thanks! That makes sense, although I’ve noticed it on same day during same outing. Though to your point, there are other factors that may be changing it like operating conditions.
