2014 2500, 6.4 Hemi,38K miles - 99% of which are used a daily driver and my transmission just blew. I was in stop and go traffic and the engine started revving high. I've been through this before when I was young and poor and driving beater cars. It's unmistakable if anyone hasn't experienced it. Limped it to the next exit and fluid smells like extremely burnt plastic.

I'm getting it towed to the dealer and will update when I learn something..... I figured what better way to kill time than complaining to my Ram family.

The good news is it didn't happen when I was out in the middle of nowhere with my kids and 5th wheel.

The worst news is I can't see a bar from where I'm at.

Still under warranty or under the optional lifetime one? Wonder what they'd charge extra to drop in the Aisin instead of the standard one, or if they even can in the 2500?

Oh yeah.... warranty up to the hilt. Maxcare Lifetime so I get a free loaner. The tranny itself is still covered under the powertrain so I don't think I even have to pay the $100 deductible.

I started it one more time hoping for a computer miracle and had lost all ability to move forward. Reverse still worked fine. Not sure if that tells anything. It sure felt like it was toast but I suppose it could just be some computer part malfunction.

The guys at the dealership were shocked that it failed at such low miles. Me too, of course. Great, my 1:1,000,000 comes with blowing a transmission rather than hitting a royal flush in Vegas. It figures......

They won't. When they replaced my rear gearset I wanted it switched to 4.10's and offered to pay the difference and I was told an exact replacement is all that will be sent. That and the fact there is no way to program the pcm to shift the aisin.

That sucks man. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a trend. Good luck. Hope you are back on the road soon.

No history of check engine light or transmission overheat warning? Was the transmission full of fluid, any leaks. Sounds like a leak and slow death of the clutches.

****** deal man! I had that feeling going over a bridge. High rev, loss of forward momentum, testicles migrated to my throat. Hopefully they get it fixed soon.

Nothing at all. The truck only has 38K miles. I thought maybe I felt a very slight slip or two over the last couple weeks but nothing major at all. Certainly no "slow death." I'm pretty in tune with my vehicles and am super **** about problems. Most of the time when I think something is wrong it turns out I'm just being paranoid.

Honestly, I hope it's toast and I get a crate transmission from the factory. If they rebuild I will always be skeptical and worry when I'm out... especially when towing. That well may be the tipping point to me keeping this truck or moving on. I was already sniffing around the 3500 diesels since I upgraded RVs to a heavy 5th over the winter.

No call from the dealer today..... life is grand. I've got a loaner minivan to cruise around in :) :) I'll update when I hear something.

Just talked to the dealer and my truck should be done next week. The part that failed was the valve body. They rebuilt it and are putting it back together. IMO this pretty much sucks but I don't really have a choice. I read up a bit on what that part does but am no expert. Does anyone have an opinion?

This also sucks since I'll undoubtedly take a hit if I try to sell private party. I know as a buyer I'd be leery of a truck with a rebuilt tranny with such low miles (38K). And trading you just take such a bath.

Of course, I'm anxious to drive it to see how it feels. I just don't know if I can ever trust it. I do a lot of backwoods camping in the summer and don't need to be breaking down in the middle of nowhere with my RV and kids.

If they screw up the rebuild it is going to fail pretty much right away. The valve body is what controls the flow of fluid inside the transmission. I wouldn't worry about it. Drive it easy for the first few hundred miles and it will last you just as long as a factory transmission should.

Look on the bright side, at least you didn't hear "can't duplicate customer's concern", or "improper use by customer and not covered under warranty".

Just heard from the dealer.... everything was put back together and on the test drive there was a bad shudder in 5th and 6th then 5th went out completely!!

Lovely..... Maybe I'll have it back in time to go camping on Labor Day.

The only good news is I have the MaxCare warranty and am getting a free loaner minivan.

Is there some time limit as to how long they get to whack away at this before I have some recourse. I think I'm starting to smell a new Cummins in my future.

Look up the lemon laws in your state.

******! On the bright side enough may go wrong with the tranny that they end up replacing it.

I'd sooner have a reman transmission from the source than one repaired in shop. No offense meant to our techs on here, it's just not something I feel many guys are experienced enough with.

He is nowhere near any lemon law claim at this point. He is still on his first service complaint and the dealership repair taking a dump has no bearing on this. They will more than likely put in a new/re-manufacture transmission before this is all done.

Completely true, I was just answering his question. Although if they have it long enough he might hit 30 days.

I did some quick research and my state (Oregon) has pretty minimal laws. Only 2 years/24,000 miles.

I'm hopeful they'll get something figured out. I agree with some others that this could be a good thing as maybe I'll get a new one. I can't imagine Chrysler is going to want to spend the money tearing this whole thing down again and rebuilding it but who knows.

For those that haven't been through something like this, the dealer essentially pulls it from the vehicle, tears it apart and takes a bunch of pictures. They send them to Chrysler and are then told what to do for the repair/rebuild/wait for a new one, etc.

It's a bit annoying that my truck has to be ripped into so many times. The service guy said it's pretty involved getting the tranny out.

My valve body was replaced at 6k miles. It was shifting very harsh so I took it in. The dealer tried loading the up dated software and the program wouldnt down load. The dealer contacted engineering and they said to replace the valve body. The truck has been perfect over 1 year now. Just some random bad parts from china. My trans did not let go it just had a very hard down shift at 28mph. Its also a 3500 dual dump with 430 gears. I have been very pleased with my dealer and dodge for fixing the minor problems. Ive had 2 software updates and the track bar bracket done.
