I was just researching this as well. seems you can order the OEM parts for a power wagon, which will fit the non PW 2500 but overall with the winch you're looking easily close to 3000 bucks to do it.
not inside.i mounted mine to a receiver that bolts to the towhooks.easier and cheaper, and i can mount it to the rear receiver by unplugging and moving to the rear, which i've had to do a couple times already.or i can leave it in the garage if i'm not off roading.
Not if it's attached to the tow hook mounts. The tow hooks are attached to a cross member that is easily bent (along with the bumper). You'll taco your bumper if you pull anywhere close to the winch rating unless you bought a small winch. The PW winch mounts to the frame horns and will hold double the truck's weight.
Starting at step 10, that sure looks like the frame to me. NOT a cross member.
Or is it because they are bolted to a bracket that is bolted to the frame?
Where does the cross member come into play?
You are aware that a 10,000 pound winch only generates that 10,000 of line pull on the first layer on the drum, right? 2nd layer drops the pulling capacity to 7900, 3rd to 6500 and 4th to 5600.
Alright, I just received the tow hooks I ordered (my truck didn't come with the tow hooks) and the hitch mentioned earlier in this thread should be here tomorrow I believe.
There isn't much to them and the mounts sandwich the frame with no spacers on the inside. Not very beefy for a tow hook mount.
I did google "dodge ram bent bumper pulling tow hooks" and got 1 hit so far that mentions a bent bumper. Looks like all that happened was the mount moved since the mounting holes are slotted to align the bumper. Not really the best thing to happen given what a tow hook is supposed to be for, but it doesn't look like the bumper bent.
I just got my kit myself, and I'm stumped on what size the bolts going through the end assembly are. Between a 15mm and 14 mm in size. Since all I'm installing is the two small reinforcing brackets, i figured i may be able to get away with doing one side at a time by removing both the bolt assembly and nuts, installing the brackets to both sides, then reinstalling the bolt/nuts while supporting that side with a jackstand. How did you do it?
