I got some bushwacker fender flares off my buddy they were free because he went with the prerunner style. Only catch is one is damaged very slightly. I want them to be flat black so I am thinking about painting them all so they match. Can I paint over the bolts they have on them? I don't want the chrome bolts anyways so I want to find a way to either buy black bolts or paint them.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing right now. Asked my buddy, who's a body man at a Furd dealership, and he said he paints over the bolts all the time. But most of the trucks I see around here with color matched flares don't have these bolts painted. I'm sure as long as they're scuffed you should be good to go.

you could paint over them. Only issue you would run into is the paint peeling on them(most likely with power washer or hard pressure from a hose. Other than that they would be protected enough.

Thanks. I figured the same thing and worse case if I mess them up I can buy new bolts. I might removed them Wednesday for a test drive on paint just to see how they hold up. I have just spent so much time dechroming I don't want the bushwackers to have chrome.

I have thought about plasti dip them clear coat. But I am not super stoked how my bumpers turned out plasti dipped. Anything small that rubs them can begin to make it peal.

Maybe replace the bolts with black ones or at least ones the have a finish that will take paint. I guess the hardware could be sandblasted and painted, but that would unlikely be cost effective unless you have access to the equipment. Just throwing out some ideas...

Try using adhesion promoter for the paint to stick well on the chrome.

I am going to check Menards tomorrow for black bolts otherwise I will try adhesion promoter on them. I also considered doing the whole fender flare in raptor spray liner since I have decided to do the bumpers and rockers in spray on liner.
