Turn on the engine, then turn off the HVAC system. Shut off the engine.

If you remove the negative battery cable for several minutes, then reconnect it, the HVAC system will go through an automatic HVAC recalibration when you turn-on the HVAC system after starting the engine.

Turn it on, do not make any adjustments and wait several minutes with the engine running. You may hear noises in the dash if it is quiet and the radio is off.

The other way to calibrate the HVAC actuators is by using a scan tool. Make sure it has bi-directional capabilities or it wont work. A small code reader won't do the trick.

I’m having issues myself. We just did new actuators, evap core and heater core and now everything functions except we are having issues with the face/defrost actuator. It won’t change functions when the truck is on, I pulled the actuator out and set it down while it was plugged in and cycled it over a dozen times and it worked just fine and as soon as I put it back in the truck it won’t move. Everything was calibrated with a scan tool and all other functions work just fine.

I will ask again, which BRAND of Actuators did you install ?

===========================

Just for the heck of it,
i found a video where the Aussie Owner of a 3rd Gen Dodge Ram
went through an Australian Summer without A/C

This is what he went through to get it fixed
I did not know, that a fan clutch could affect the HVAC, as much as it does

We’ve tried an oem actuator, a Murray and a Dorman and they all have the same issue. When the actuator is not installed, the gear turns as it should when the control knob is turned and when it’s installed it won’t move. Leads me to believe it could be the dash controls or hvac control module?

Did the WHITE thing , ( DOOR SERVO COUPLING ) , that allows the Actuator to move the DOOR inside of the HVAC Box, pivot the door as it should, when you use your thumb & finger to rotate it ?

If the door moves freely and only causes problems when the motor is hooked up, it tells me that either something is binding or the motors aren't strong enough. I'd figure out what type of current they should be seeing and test them to see if the controller is sending enough to it, or if the motors you're buying are just weak.

Re-reading, you've tried 3 different brands all with the same issue. Are you sure they're being installed correctly to avoid binding something up? That's the only thing that makes sense. Something sounds out of place.

Could still be a voltage issue or something broken that binds once it cycles a few times. I'd rule those out before firing the parts cannon at it. Those controllers aren't cheap.

When you first start your vehicle after it has not been running for a while
It will always default to Defrost
to clear the windshield
when it warms up, it will go to your chosen setting

Out of the 2 Rams and the 3 cars i've had in the last 10 years not one of them defaults to the defrost setting even after they've sat all winter, most times with the battery disconnected

All of my Rams and my '14 Durango with auto temp controls started in defrost (if on automatic temp) and then switched to whatever they were set at once it warmed up but only if set to automatic. My current Ram does this every morning.

My 14 was pretty well loaded for a regular cab,but it never had auto temp, maybe being a regular cab was the differance.Neither did my wifes last 2 Challengers and both had pretty well every option you could get on a 16 and 19 Challenger.Same as my fully loaded 300,not one of them ever started on defrost unless i'd left the heater controls on defrost when shutting them off

Hmm.... that's odd. I wonder why some do it and some don't. Thinking back, our '19 Charger RT didn't seem to do it, so good point.
