I sure could use your thoughts!

Got a decent rattle going on! My local dealer won’t see it until Dec 2nd! I’m not driving it now! I do HVAC service out of it! It’s getting cold…horrible time to lose the use of it!

Working out of my Trans Am now!

Thoughts?

I sure do appreciate y’all’s time!

That sound is a little bit more than just the HEMI tick going on. That is a failed/collapsed lifter and if not properly addressed now it will destroy the camshaft and send the metal into the rest of the engine. Dont drive this thing until it is properly repaired.

How long has this been going on? Did the noise just start or has it been progressively getting worse over time?

It’s moved all of 40’ when I noticed it! I had to move it out of the way of my garage!

Noticed it 2 weekends ago!

Keep rocking with the T/A for now unless you have the tools and parts to get it done yourself.

How many miles are on the motor in the truck?

What oil have you been using in the truck?

Just curious.
I’m in the process of buying an older Ford E250 for work!

PowerWagon just hit 67,000miles!

Amsoil 0w40 from the start! Amsoil and Wix filters! 5000 mile intervals!

Pretty religious about maintenance!

Just had passenger side exhaust manifold and driveshaft replaced!

I’ve been more worried about the transmission than the motor!

The 8HP70 transmissions are pretty robust in stock form. They can handle some abuse. The 5.7 HEMI lifters and their ability to trash a camshaft and ruin a long block is always my number one concern when I buy or trade for a new truck. Then I take the exhaust manifold off and machine them flat and install new hardware. I do this stuff for a living so its not a big deal for me but I feel the pain of the owners who just want a nice truck to drive and not give them and issues. My Dad bought a 2014 Durango 5.7 a few years back with about 65,000 on it and the first thing we did was pull the top end apart and put in a new cam and lifters.

Are you letting the dealer take care of the truck? What year is it and do you have any warranty left be it factory 3/36 or a Mopar Service Contract?

It’s a 2018 PowerWagon!

I have the Max Care warrantee!

66RFE!

Dealership will take care of it! They’ve been awesome to me and the company I used to work for! My boss(deceased) has done a lot of business with them! A couple Hellcats, 392 Rubicon, TRX…

I just hate the long wait!

And yes, my worry would be spitting a lot of metal scraps through the motor! I’d love to do a cam job myself, but it’s outside my capabilities right now!

I’m thinking a small block Chevy on a stand might be the way to learn as a first time!

If you want to learn, you'd be better off finding a 5.7 Hemi that's wore out or has a rod through the side of the block to practice on,then using a small block old school Chebby
There's lots of video's on youtube you can watch to,plus Kurtis has a good thread on doing a late model cam swap.

Great idea!

I’m no mechanic, but I can spin a wrench and bust a knuckle or 2!

I’ve done some drivetrain swaps, but no internals! I understand it, just haven’t done it! I got stuck in a Jesuit college prep school when I should’ve been in automotive BOCES program! Engineering and accounting in college!

Did the clutch and tranny swap a few times in my TA! Converted a couple K5s to D60/14bolt/464/205! But no gears or engine internals!

Kinda like I can stuff a nail through wood, but I’m no carpenter…just an HVAC service tech that is into cars/trucks! I wish I knew more!

Now I live in a garage…no room to work on anything in depth! Basics! Oil changes, brakes, maintenance items…and my body hurts after rolling around on concrete!

Been there/done that as a kid, lol. Back when i was in high school i had an interm job during Christmas and Easter breaks that was a couple hundred miles from home, and the boss let me sleep in a back room above the shop.He threw a cot up there for me to sleep on,and i ate at his supper table,as i was only there for a couple weeks at a time, before heading back to school, lol. At 16 it was great,as it was a brand new heated shop, and he let me work on my truck after hours, plus i got to park it inside every night :waytogo: :Big Laugh:

It’s definitely simple living! It’s not for everybody, but it works well for me…and Apricot!
