I know the 72-80 were the read headed step children in the modern dodge pickup family, not quite a Ram but over shadowed by pre 72 D100's. But can I post here if my donor frame is a 92 Ram? the truck will end as a 1972 d100 stepside, but the frame is off my 92 D150 donor truck.

taking the cab off is not a one man job, btw.

no, 2 wheel. all 4 of my 'parts trucks' are 4x2 short beds. I'd love to do a 4x4 but those are $$$ around here and no short beds readily available to mount the stepside bed onto. on the plus side, 2 of my trucks have the nice 8.75 rear ends to play with!

Love my 2014 2500 6.4 4x4 as well. Prior USAF and when the **** hit the fan, we were always looking for you MC guys! thanks!

I have the original everything for the truck. it'll be donating a lot since the 72 has so little.

had the day off from work today so got everything off the frame today and power washed. gotta prep it for some por15 and paint, hopefully this weekend.

If u r using a different transmission than your original, I sure would like to have a couple pieces of the linkage. I attached photos of the throttle pressure lever and its adjustable seivel. I really need a good adjustable swivel if u r not going to reuse it. Please let me know!

unfortunately, I'll be re-using most parts. not much in the way of repop or even NOS parts for the 72. that's why under the skin, it's mostly going to be a 92 D150 with a lot of plasma cutter and welder to make parts I might need. the only parts I won't be using will likely be front rotors/spindles and rear end. I'm keeping wheel bolt pattern at 5 x4.5 - makes my rear wheel disc brakes plan way easier.

Motor is probably going to be a 408 stroker with a ****** EFI. Hemi would be great but I don't get along with ECM/computers.

Looks like it's going to be a 92 with a 72 body swap essentially. More modern parts available to make it easier to drive and service, but the cool old school look of the 72. Hopefully the body is straight, because the 72 has some good lines that'll be tough to fix if it's not along the fenders and front doors especially and they really give the truck character.

so this is my second favorite part of any restoration. a clean and freshly painted frame. Only part better is once all the suspension is hung and it's a rolling chassis.

yes that's a second frame in the back ground. after stripping 3 trucks, I realized I had 2 really good frames and a bunch of parts in really good conditions. Compared to my usual projects, these old dodges are really cheap to work on. So I'll be completing 2 trucks, one stepside as stock as possible and a second styleside/fleetside less stock. That will probably be a surprise gift for my dad when I'm done. 20180702_213405.jpg 20180701_202247.jpg

Nicely done and I wish that I had a son who thought of me like that.

so I've made some progress. I put the cab and box (temporarily) back on the frame for my fleetside. terrible pic. Entire underside of both power washed, sanded and repainted then undercoated for sound deadening.

surprisingly for a 20+ year old truck, the floor pan is near perfect. Thank goodness for galvanized steel. My 72 cab, not so good, holes in what is left of the floor pan.

I'm putting the 92 fuel tank 'flap' lid on the 78's box. mostly to allow me to use the 92's fuel tank/system. way less work than tracking down parts.

will hopefully have the body epoxy urethane sealed by the weekend. Love me some SPI southern polyurethane! pretty nice epoxy and 2k primer. customer service is top notch as well.

was asked (by mom as this will be a surprise for dad) to do a yellow black scheme on the paint, like the old 340 dusters. originally was thinking more OEM with dog dish hub caps, etc. Oh well, I will be spraying a satin black hood and a GMC Sierra tailgate 'spoiler' will actually fit on the dodge tail gate - to balance out the yellow. need to figure out what other black decal/stripes might look good.

well, got the gas tank flap door welded and smoothed. this is pre- epoxy primer. will hopefully have the truck painted by end of tomorrow.

Just confirmed with a custom decal guy I can get a "340 wedge" hood decal made like the old 340 dusters had. Only, I'm putting a 408 stroker, so the decal will be modified appropriately.

just finished up with the ridiculously bright "lemon twist" yellow and a few coats of clear. First thing I thought after standing back was, school bus. anyway, that's the color they want, so that's what they get.

tomorrow, I attack the matte black hood....
