Hello!

I am still going back and forth on a new rebel or loaded laramie with 3.92 and have a question about towing. We're also looking at buying a newer tritoon boat that is across state lines and i'm wondering if there are any negatives to buying the truck and then heading over and bringing a heavy ass boat home?

Do the new trucks require a lengthy break in time before i'm supposed to haul something heavier with it?

The boat i'm looking at is like 4.4k lbs plus accessories and then the tandem axle boat trailer itself (surge brakes i believe)

I've towed our fairly hefty Searay 210 Select speedboat with my 2013 F150 FX4 no problem many times, but don't want to mess up a new truck.

(My 2013 FX4 has a leaky turbo so i don't want to risk messing it up further by hauling this tritoon roughly 250-300 miles back home)

The manual supposedly says 500 miles for break in. I towed sooner with my 22.

You should allow all the parts to sync together before towing. Especially the rear end and tranny. I would follow the book.

I starting towing with my 20ft RV around the 600 mile mark, Never had any issues. Just make sure to bump up the tire pressure if you’re running oem tires.

It takes about 3 hours to drive 200 miles on a old paved mining road at 55 to 70 mph

It also takes 2 hours & 15 minutes to drive 153 miles at 74 mph

Just to give you an idea of real time & distance

I thought I had 501 miles on mine before I towed my 6500 lb TT. But alas, I was mistaken and only had 380 miles.
Darn. I guess I'm doomed to go to towing hell. I think I'll be in good company.

Manual for our 2019 Laramie Hemi 3.92 states:
No towing for first 500 miles.
First 500 miles of towing is below 50MPH.

YMMV

I would avoid the Rebel and get the Laramie. I purchased a new one in 16 and it had so many problems with the steering and air ride system that the dealer would not fix, or said it was normal, I gave it back. And purchased a new Sport.

Do the Rebels and Laramies have different steering? My Rebel does not have air ride.

I have a Laramie, I would stick with that, and first 500 miles no towing and light towing for the first couple of tows, The Differential gears need miles to break in.

I tow my toon with my 3.92 geared Bighorn and it does great.

I once towed it with my brother in laws 3.21 geared Bighorn.... pretty big difference between the trucks.... not so noticeable on the interstate, but once you get into the hills the difference is night and day.

I didn't tow with mine until after the 500 miles.

I tow my 6000# 28' travel trailer with my laramie. it tows plenty fine. I have added airbags and Helwig sway bar and run a little more air in the tires when towing and it does fine. recently towed it from Ft. Worth to Custer SD and back and it did fine. can set cruise for 68-69 on most roads and get 8.5-10 mpg. pulling is no problem for these trucks. cargo capacity and tongue wt. is the limiting factor unless your truck is a lower trim level and has few options.
