I have 7' doors now, and want 8s. I'm sure the header isn't on a load bearing wall, as the joist run parallel to the doors. I was thinking replace the header, but you bring up a good point in reusing what I have. It should be fine.

Yep, I thought that way too but when it came down to it, it seemed senseless to make a new header that was the same as the old one. If I were going to a large single door, I would have bought an i-lam to span both door openings (I have 2 9' wide doors, similar to the left door in your pic).

The "hard" part was cutting between the exterior sheathing and the header, since the nails from the sheathing will go into the header. A good recip saw and blade for wood+nails made the job pretty easy. Any one that still stuck out a bit I just sunk back into the header with a hammer.

I had enough room for an 8 foot door, but once you get past 7 foot doors stuff gets expensive quick. If I ever get a Power Wagon, it wont fit....Ill just move to a different state :)

I have a leveled power wagon on 35’s and am pretty sure I still fit in a 7’ door. You could probably have a 6” lifted wagon on 38’s and fit in an 8’ door still.

The puck loses functionality, I think the cell based stuff like uconnect, etc. Sat radio will still work.

I literally just finished raising the opening of our second garage door. Original size was 9x6'6" and my stock 17 big horn didn't fit.

Picked up 2 9x7 doors at home depot... Did one last weekend and the other today.

Expense wise, not a huge deal, but labor wise makes you wonder if it was worth it.

On the other hand it probably would have cost a pretty penny for a contractor to raise the height. Took me about 4 hours each opening.

So... For those of us who don't use the sharkfin crap... Can we change to the puck? My radio is basically just Android Auto (or CarPlay when the Wife decides she doesn't want to listen to my "old" country playlist anymore...) Occasionally I'll just use AM/FM. And the clock/thermometer. As long as the clock gets GPS data for it to stay "right". Maybe occasionally actually use the GPS is the phone just does a dumb

I ordered my PW then bought a house before it arrived.
I was pretty nervous about getting it in there but it fits fine...
