I use Rhino ramps for my car. The nose is about 6 or 7 inches from the ground. Goes up without hitting, and they haven't slid out on me yet.
Great idea using the boards though!

Now that you've mentioned them not sliding Murphy will strike and the next time you use them, they'll slide, lol.
My old ramps are 8" tall and they'd slide alot of times if i didn't lock them down. My 6" ramps aren't as prone to sliding though

@RamDiver if you look at Nicks pics close, you can see the locking bar in action on his Quickjacks
Exactly, there are 2 levels. In the pic, it is set at the highest level. I also have 2 sets of 4 rubber blocks that are 2 different heights. I also have the extendable pads that work great for trucks.

If you want an extra level of safety you can add jack stands to "catch" the vehicle should anything fail on the lift. I have never even thought that would be a concern so far and I have had several Mustangs, mid size SUV's and several half ton pick ups on them.

They probably would have LOL!
Now I have some old carpet on the garage floor. I don't think they will slide now.

OK... get ready to collectively slap your foreheads. The best, effective and easiest way to keep ramps from sliding on a smooth surface is ROPE. Allow me to explain.
Attach an appropriate length of rope (length of vehicle) to each ramp. Lay the rope on the floor in the direction of the vehicle. Now, simply drive over the ropes and onto the ramps. The rear wheels (on the rope) will keep the ramps from sliding forward!
Now, slap those foreheads and say, "Why didn't I think of that?"

That also works, but it won't get alot of low slung vehicles up a set of ramps with-out dragging a spoiler etc. :waytogo:

I seen a fellow in town one time I stopped at with my heavy floor jack, He could not get his ramps from sliding , 2 problem, painted and sealed floor that if wet , you could skate on the thing, and he was feathering the brake peddle as he was trying to climb the rams, I seen his brake lights on, he did not know he was doing it, not that it would make any difference on that floor.
Those 2ft rubber pavers made from ground up tires make a good base for ramps.
also great for grinder stands and such on cement floors.

i use to have a set of ramps made from 16 inch sq bridge timbers , and also 3x12 bridge planks.
you could drive a semi on to them, but too big for in town.
Miss that and the gunrange out the back shop door.

Yep I had one, I would have been lost without one, nice little MF 150
50hp diesel, small enough to get in small places.
I had some short ones as well that I could handle for the regular stuff
They had planks cut with bevels so I could go higher if needed

Back about 1957 we built a new 3 car garage at dad’s and put in a pit.
We went too deep, and needed more light, full cement, but it was always cold and wet. I would never bother doing one again
Every thing you needed was on top, or walked away and you spent most of the time climbing out and hitting your head .

On our old original yard before Dad relocated the yard,we had the side of a hill dug-out,and there was a set of 6X12 planks laid out on a couple cement pillars ,so you could drive 3 tons or tractors out on the planks, along with the smaller vehicles to do oil changes etc. Once i was old enough to start doing the oil changes ,i used to take everything back to the old yard and use that old pit on the side of the hill. Dad sold the yard when i was about 15,and the new owners scrapped that old set-up, it was still one of the best outdoor oil change pits i've seen in a farmyard
