Its all about batteries and insurance, currently insurance companies are still rating EV's, nothing is set yet, you will get insurance on that shinny new EV, but get ready for an insurance shocker in the future, many EV batteries cant be fixed after even a minor accident. This is a cut and paste, I will post link to article: Stellantis said it does not repair batteries after crashes where the airbags deploy, the same can be said for Tesla, and there are others.

Insurance bureau's have stated there have been many EV fires after minor to mid accidents weeks to months after the accident, so the insurance companies are saying the jury is still out on rates, Stellanis and Tesla will not provide insurance risk assessors of their battery manufacturing tech, the bottom line looks like your EV rates will be higher than you think eventually, and if you charge on your driveway or in garage, look for your house rates to go up, because when an EV catches fire, it goes out when it wants too and your house is already gone.

Seems like EV's are setup to be disposable like a Bic lighter.

I've seen videos of Lithium dive light batteries the size of a bottle of beer, ignite and burn down service shops.

For years now, at least amongst those that know better, no Lithium dive light or dpv batteries should ever be charged indoors without constant supervision.

Once a Lithium battery ignites, the only method to successfully extinguish the fire would be to remove all of the air completely and not with water.

Water and Lithium batteries are a bad mix. I couldn't imagine charging an EV battery inside any enclosure without a highly sophisticated smoke and heat detection system.

If anyone is currently charging an EV battery inside without a very good monitoring system, do some research FAST or contact me or someone else who is familiar with the properties of Lithium batteries.

Figure I will be long dead before this stuff hits Mainstream use or acceptance.

Not if your state ever pulls a brainiac move like NY or Cali.

Mandate that ICEs are no longer in production before developing a realistic replacement.

Trudy should be jumping on that bandwagon any day now.

our son is heavily invested in Tesla and keeps buying us cars,so we are ahead of the curve.i have to admit they are a very good commuter car, so far and it's surprisingly good in the snow.about 6 months ago he says "i'm buying a cybertruck.want one?".so we're on the list.

I think https://vinfastauto.us/ has the right idea, where you can basically lease the battery.

Not sure how it exactly works, don't want it, don't care much, really. But it might be the right way to go for people who can't wait to drive a BEV with a reasonable cost factor in mind.

This is simple to rate...If it can't be repaired economically (which is appears it can't when certain components are damaged), replacement is priced. So, if a collision occurs and battery is damaged and that battery pack is $15K to replace plus body panels, the price of repair may cross the threshold into replacement. It's no different than existing ICE vehicles, just more compartmentalized. Replacement percentages may be higher(remains to be seen), but make no mistake...Once loss history is developed, pricing will be easy to calculate. That loss history is happening right now as we speak and has been for several years.
