Hey fellas I’m new to the site!
I got a question, I have a 2016 1500 and currently I’m running true dual 2.5” pipe cat back, stock cats stock manifolds. I’m looking to cut the cats and get a flowmaster super 10. I’ve never cut the cats on any of my vehicles. I have a diablo sport turner currently. Would I have to get a custom tune for my truck to run without the O2 sensors? Would it get rid of my check engine light with a custom tune? Who do you recommend for tunes. I appreciate any help.

Hey Russ. I just deleted my cats on my 2018, couple of things to be aware of.

One, you'll have a 'rich aroma' of fuel and other things that are normally taken care of by the converter and the hot stuff on the inside. I personally think it smells like America and like it, but it bothers my wife.

Two, you will still have to run O2 sensors. If you search on the forums you'll see a lot of comments. If you replace the cats with a set of headers, short or long, they normally come with bungs to re-connect them. The cats are integrated into the downpipes I believe on your truck as they are on mine, so you'll either have to go with headers or pull it apart and roto-rooter them out to remove the insides. If that's all you do some guys are able to run without throwing a CEL, I'd recommend using a tuner and adjusting them because I think it will affect your fuel mixture a bit. You can delete one set (usually the rear or 'black connector' sensors) through a tune, but the O2 sensor is what your engine PCM uses to regulate the fuel mixture. Our trucks have four sensors, two for each side. For instance I had my rear set of sensors deleted via tune and used one of the bungs to install a wideband sensor.

Good basic read on O2 sensors: http://www.autotap.com/techlibrary/understanding_oxygen_sensors.asp

I deleted my Cats off my 2016 Ram 1500 Sport and kind of regretting it now. Cannot get rid of the O2 sensor errors after placing non foulers on the front two sensors and when I spoke to hemituner about getting a custom tune for it because the diablo sport tuner doesn't get rid of those errors they said I would have to take care of the rear O2 sensors first because I will have fuel issues. Their recommendation was to have the rear sensors placed directly into the pipe but cannot find info on here if that will really work or not. If you have any luck please share..

Deleting cats is good for maybe 3 peak horsepower... If that. Outside of actual racing I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze

Is the smell overwhelming? In the truck while you're driving or just behind the vehicle if its running? Cant decide if i want to spend a little more on high flow cats or just delete all together. Appreciate the info.

You put the anti-foulers on the wrong set of 02's you need to install them on the rear 02's. You never heard this from me,lol. You need to stack 2 anti-foulers under each rear 02,(i've always just used the short cheap ones you can get at Napa, long ones will also work to,if you have enough clearance between things to still get the sensor back into them) you'll have to drill out the top anti-fouler so the 02 will sit into it flush, and the old trick is to get some 00 steel wool and stuff it into the bottom anti-fouler before you screw the drilled out top anti-fouler into it. Should take care of your code/check engine light. You'll also have to put the front 02's back into the pipes like they were originally installed. You need a differance in voltage readings between the front and rear 02's,and the way you've done it is backasswards, lol. My wifes untuned 2019 Challenger hasn't had cats since last year, and it hasn't thrown a code yet.

For me the smell isn't too bad. It was at first then I discovered I had a small exhaust leak. To be honest with you I actually like it, reminds me of my old cars!

I don’t delete the cats on my vehicles: 7 motorcycles, the truck, Wrangler, and Mustang. The reasons are:

l don’t race. Therefore, 3 hp even on a motorcycle is not worth it.

I am of the opinion that the cats take the crackle out of most exhaust sound. V6s with no cats in particular, sound stupid.

You’re going to lose resale value on your vehicle afterwards because guys like me wouldn’t buy a cat deleted vehicle.

Deleted vehicles stink. Period.

Catalytic converters are getting really expensive. If you take them out, do it in such a way as they can be put back in.

If you do long tube headers, or some applications that call for a cat delete, I get it. But retaining the cats is part of the reason I went with shortys.

But whatever you do on your stuff is cool with me.
