Hi all, I have a 2012 1500 without the center console. Where are you guys all mounting your CB radois? I have a small Uniden and I'm looking for somewhere to mount it.

How small of a Uniden? Does your tk have the fold-down cup-holder in the lower/middle? That's a nice feature, but consumes a lot of potential CB mounting space. Sounds like your tk and my tk are set up similar. Yeah tough to find a good cb spot.

I've seen on some trucks where the owner made a big L-bracket to mount in front of the middle seat (CB face-up), tight to the seat. Size that up and see if the fold-down cup holder will still open. Some owners have made a wood center console..but then you cant use the factory cup-holders. There are some universal roof overhead consoles where a CB will fit. That might be a lot of work for a radio where nobody is actually 'on' 98% of the time...ha ha. Ideally you want it within an arm's reach and ease of seeing the face. Not a lot of spots in the Ram for that.

This probably doesn't help...but I have a small President CB in another truck which I stuffed between the gap of the bottom seat cushion/s (facing up). Pressure from the seat foam keeps it in place. At first it was temporary because I too couldn't figure out a good spot and I had to get going. But then I realized it was in the perfect spot for my hand, so I left it. I cover it with a covid mask (LOL!) which looks like the mask is just sitting there. You can't see the radio under the mask, and in the 5yrs it's been between the seat, nobody's touched it. In fact, a group of low-life's went around the neighborhood 3yrs ago and stole change out of unlocked cars. My door was open and presumably they looked in (??), but the CB didn't get touched! :D

But if your radio is what I'm thinking, it might be a bit too thick but worth a try ..just to see. That's why I asked what Uniden you have.

if it were me, id mount it somehwere up high, so if i need to change channels i can do it without taking my eyes comepletely off the road

of course, this would mean you'd have to deal with the mic cord hanging in view at all times

I have the President "BILL" and it is small enough to fit in the map slot of the center console, if you pull the slot out a bit. Only way of seeing it if you don't know it's there, is the mic cord sticking out of the face of the radio.

But, then again, the big ol Wilson (fireastick look alike) antenna is sort of a give away, anyway.

Lots of Remote-Mounted CB radios on the market.

When we “caravan” with friends …we avoid the CB chatter and use Family-Band GMRS instead. Cheap and private channels with good line-of-sight range similar to CB…. No need to modify the vehicle …and can take it with you on the hike …or the boat… in the shopping center so the family can stay in-touch.

Wouldn't that be the same as using a handheld cell phone?

I'm pretty confident our regional cops would ticket you for using that in your truck.

AFAIK, any handheld radio is not allowed, check the costs below for a mind numbing experience.

I know it males no sense given it would be considered legal to use a CB radio while taking your eyes off the road to adjust channel settings and squelch level.

Isn’t that fascinating….considering that the Police use handheld microphones when making traffic stops of citizens using hand held microphones.

If using the radio while operating a vehicle is dangerous…. I suppose we should All Stay Out of Airplanes.

I know of no one who is distracted by looking to change channels in the middle of a sentence. It is the conversation itself and the mental devotion to the conversation which is the cause for distraction….. not the physical manipulation of a push-button microphone …or the cell ph held to the ear.

DOH.

If you read the link I posted, the oligarchs have provisioned for authorities and emergency personnel to be exempt from this law.

This isn't a case of the rules being for everyone it's more a special rule to control the public or normal people.

I completely agree that the distraction is primarily about the conversations and this is apparently the only method they have to limit those distracting calls, or so they believe.

Many people are incapable of walking and chewing gum, they certainly can't drive for $hit under ideal conditions. Now toss in a passionate phone conversation and look out.

Yes but, it has not been identified in the letter of this law. And, CB & 2-way radios have been used in vehicles for many, many decades where as most cell use only started in the late 80s, early 90s or later for the masses.

Perhaps the problem isn't so much with using a handheld device while mobile, besides the massive volume of cell users, which has translated into a significant number of incompetents pushing their neural limits beyond capacity.

Maybe, they should have a provision on your license for phone use, the same as vision & cognition skills already tested.

We all know people who can't walk and chew gum, there's nothing wrong with that but I don't want to risk my health & well-being on them having a good day and not screwing it up because of a heated conversation with the babysitter. LOL

My 2010 was wrecked by a 30's some idiot in Saskatoon that had headphones on and his phone in his lap when he came to rest in the far ditch after the wreck when I was stopped for road contraction, line up was 1/4 mile long.
He never seen me.
BTW he beat the charge about a year later because 3 times the arresting cop could not bother to show up for court .
Sitting at a red light with phone in hand will cost about 250 I think , great money making industry.
OK rant over, I use to have a couple slide quick mounts for these , and glass mount antennas.

Three opportunities for a tiny bit of satisfaction, I can't fault you for being annoyed.

In Ontario, distracted driver laws have become a cash cow for the authorities.

Penalties for Violations

The penalties for violating Section 78(1) have become increasingly severe, reflecting the government’s commitment to curb distracted driving. As of 2024, the penalties are as follows:

For fully licensed drivers (A-G class license):

  • First offence: Fine of \$615 to \$1,000, 3 demerit points, 3-day license suspension.
  • Second offence (within five years): Fine of $615 to $2,000, 6 demerit points, 7-day license suspension
  • Third and subsequent offences: Fine of $615 to $3,000, 6 demerit points, 30-day license suspension

For novice drivers (G1, G2, M1, M2):

  • First offence: Same fines as above, but no demerit points. Instead, 30-day license suspension
  • Second offence: 90-day license suspension
  • Third offence: License cancellation and removal from the Graduated Licensing System

And I'll bet they didn't pay for your lunch and parking. I'd be pissed and raising $hit through any available channel.

When i first started up my Pilot Car Business.
I needed a CB Radio, it was required by U.S. & Federal Authorities.
2 way radios would not work, because not everyone uses the same frequency

I built a Tricked out Box, the top just slid off of the bottom section.
The CB Radio could be switched out in less than 10 minutes, if it stopped working.

i seem to have lost the photo of the CB face

i used Velcro to stick it to the carpet

The question is...how often are you going to *Really* USE the CB? That's probably something to consider to determine how much space you want to devote to it.

Guys who work in construction, local truck deliveries, or even 4x4 trail off-roaders might use them a lot. Or if you have a couple buddy's who like to fun-around. But around here there's [sadly] almost nobody on the channels. And those who are... there's some foul-mouthed users out there who don't sound real inviting to talk to. If there was an emergency, I don't know if there's a Teady Bear out there who'd hear you. In some areas in the sound or along major trucking routes I hear there is a lot of use. Maybe that's your area.

But they're still a lot of fun...I get it. That's why I have one. I wish there were more guys on the radio ..like in the old days (I hate when people say that....now I just said it!). Maybe try it out for a month mounted temporarily and see.

I did an internet search for "Roof console CB" and "Overhead console" and "Hump center CB" or even "Center cup holder". A lot of possibilities of CB mounts (above and below). But I like the idea of the dash cut-out too.

Back in the day on the farm I had radio’s in most of the trucks and machinery
In my main grain truck, I cut a hole in the dash, as there was lots of room, looked good and you where not banging your knees on them
Most guys just hung out on channel 9 or 12
Late at night you could sometimes pick the southern US boys from Canada. I. Sold out 12 years ago and had a box full of good quality CB’s
I still have all the sale results, but I bet they sold for 10 or$20 with all the stuff
