Ok I'm a girl but like my 2014 Ram 1500. Check engine light came on Auto Zone checked for me code P0456 system leak detected (very small leak) so I replaced the gas cap(it was loose got new one anyway ) light did not go off (I don't know how to turn it off) I drove on and off 2 days still on .... should the light be turned off to see of the cap was the problem or could it be a part under the hood..thanks

Get a code reader from your auto supply store (around $40). You can not only read what's causing a Check Engine light, but you can clear the code(s) as well.

You could disconnect the battery for a few minutes and that should reset the code. Gas cap is only one of the possibilities for a small evap leak. So keep in mind that you may have to take it to a shop for diagnostics. They can open and close the purge valve with a computer and see if it builds up pressure, they can also smoke it to determine small leaks.

Yes the above post is how to hard reset your system, try that. Also, when fueling up do you top off a lot?
