I was changing the passenger side headlight bulb yesterday and decided to check my radiator hoses while I was under the hood. The upper hose was super soft and starting to collapse and the lower hose was a tad soft but near as bad as the upper so I am going to change them both. Wanted to throw this out there for those that like to do their own maintenance, could save some problems down the road.

What year truck and what mileage? The upper hose is not a wire reinforced hose and is fairly soft whenever the truck isn’t running. You should easily be able to get 150k+ from the original hoses. They’re not like the low quality rubber hoses of the past. I inquired about them years ago on my 11’ and the parts guy said in 6 years working there they never ordered upper and lower hoses for any Ram they serviced.

Its'a 2010 with about 153k on it,i'm aware that it isn't wire reinforced like the lower but the upper hose is almost flat and sags, i'm pretty sure it shouldn't be as soft as it is, don't remember it being like that when I bought it .

10 years and 153k is no surprise then. That’s old.

Yeah probably a good idea to replace it anyway. The Mopar hoses are cheap enough I'd go with those.

Might be a good idea to replace the heater hoses that go from the water pump to the heater core as well...

I'm replacing them with Gates hoses as I trust their products, besides our local dealers don't have the hoses in stock anyways. I changed the upper hose last night which was pretty easy but the lower hose will require that I drain the radiator so I'll get to that one this weekend. Anyone know where I can get that plastic clamp on the shroud that holds the upper hose in place, I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Mopar parts fisch.

Just fyi a collapsing hose can also be a sign of a bad radiator cap

I know that but this hose was really soft, especially when I compared it to the new one.
Go with you gut bud. i just wanted to put it out there because it happened on my old 1500.

I trust a grown man when he says he can tell the difference between a soft, and hard hose. Lullz....
