From online reviews, it looked like a CLASS 5 was std on the truck. But I saw comments online that Class 4 is now std. Can anyone clarify that for us? Thanks very much!

I should comment that a local dealer just told me yesterday that a Class 4 is std - but all the reviews I saw said Class 5. Maybe the dealer changed his / downgraded the Receiver?

Class 4 comes on the 1/2 tons, class 5 on the HDs (2 1/2 inch shank) unless something recently changed. In this supply chain nightmare, who knows until you go look at the truck.

I have ordered a 2500 Laramie w/ Hemi. Truck is built, waiting on shipping. The equipment list says Class V Receiver Hitch

I'll be upset if it comes with a class 4

Reading this thread, learned something new. I had no clue the different hitches 5 vs 4 were a different size, just thought about capacity/capability. TY RAM, LOL.

My 2021 2500 Cummins is Class 5 with adapter. but don't make the mistake I made and leave the adapter in and drive off!! Replacements found in auto parts stores when you are away with your camper do not necessarily line up properly!!

A properly set up Class IV can almost max out 2500 in regards to what you can tow behind the truck.

2013 and newer RAM Heavy Duty trucks have a Class 5 Hitch. 2.5 inch receiver. A new truck should include the 2 inch reducer.
That's what I thought, too. However, the dealer showed me the RAM HEMI truck & it has Class 4 (with 2 inch) ... I guess the dealer switched it out for the less expensive Class 4 (if it came from Dodge with the Class 5)

Is it a tradesman? Is it a 2500? The class 4 will not give the rated capacity for the truck. Another stupid dealer move.

True, not too worried about capabilities. But I already ordered a new wd hitch with 2.5" shank as well as an adjustable height multi-ball BW hitch with 2.5" shank.

The problem one runs into with the 2" hitch is that most 'off the shelf' receivers and balls that fit them are rated at 5K or 6K lbs. So while the rig may be capable of more weight, the attaching hardware is not. Be careful of your combinations (...read the fine print stamped on the part you are installing).
