Friends, getting things ready to do the pelenum repair. I bought a used intake manifold off ebay. Just got the hughs kit via ups. Had the surfaces flat checked. But, I'm not happy with it's cleanliness yet.
What is normaly used to clean the intake?
The shop that I had check the surfaces said that their hot tank would eat the aluminum?
I took the intake into the car wash and power washed it as well as I could.
The runners still have carbon or other crud in them.

The best way I found was to use carb cleaner. The carb cleaner would dissolve the carbon deposits completely but if it was not removed immediately it would leave a stain on the aluminum.

^^ what he said.
But a thorough cleaning is unnecessary. It won't hurt anything to have oil and carbon deposits on the was of the runners.

Well so I got to thinking. That has to be all old oil in those runners. The plenum plate was blown when I got it. I'm going to bath it anyway as I cleaned up the inlets with a file and dremel and cleared up the bottom of the injector holes with a sanding drum. Relax it was the under side of them not the holes themselves. I got the used Throttle Body with it as well and I'm going to mod it as soon as I figure out how far to do so and how. I have it fairly clean now though.
