I own a 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 diesel in it. I have error code P2069 Intake Air Heater Performance. The bolt that holds the wire to the intake is loose leading me to believe the bolt is starting to go. There seems to be 2 options for fixing it, the Banks Monster Ram intake and Grid Heater Upgrade or the BD Killer Grid Heater Upgrade. Has anyone had any experience with either of these or possibly another way to fix it?

Thank You

James

Is that the famous "Cummins Killer" bolt, that drops a nut into then intake, which the falls into a cylinder and destroys the engine?

I have never had the issue yet. But I am paranoid about such engine killer issues. Look up on utube, there are a variety of fixes different guys have done, which were much more cost effective than the banks mod. If that bolt is already loose, I would affect some sort of fix asap... especially in the cold weather where that grid heater is always being used.

Skip the Banks stuff and go for the BD fix you will be saving a lot of $$ using BD and have a lot less problems

I wish I could delete it but I live in Warren County NJ and they look for diesels that have done that. I have been stopped in 2 roadside inspections looking for emissions equipment.

I'm not sure this is emissions equipment. All it does is this is the replacement for glow plugs, w/o it at worst your car just turns over more until it starts.

I thought you meant do a complete delete.
no, plus I believe if you unplug it from solenoid it wont throw a code. Look into the many ways to delete the grid heater, good luck. If it is gunked up might want to clean it.

If you disconnect from the battery and you have remote start, you will get the code and not be able to remote start. Research dictates that some trucks get the code and the same behavior in remote start when you disconnect it from the solenoid as well. If you don't have remote start just don't wait past 3 or 4 seconds when cranking and you will get no code.

IMO Banks is an overkill for just the grid heater bolt unless you are looking to upgrade the intake horn at some point in the future. The BD kit retains all of your OEM parts and OEM operation of the grid heater post install and is much cheaper than banks.

It will potentially throw a code if you just unplug it. IMO Banks is a ripoff at $900+. You can do the same thing with the BD kit and get the same results. The intake doesn't flow any more than stock.

But yes, if that wire wiggles, stop messing around and fix it. This is fairly rare, but it does happen. Better to spend $200 now than $15k in the near future.

My truck is getting fixed today and when my mechanic opened it up he was able to take this picture. As you can see the bolt has melted off and is gone. By the looks of the carbon buildup in the picture it has been gone for a long time. Where could the bolt have gone? My truck runs fine.

If it were me, that engine wouldn't get cranked again until I had either found the bolt, or stripped the entire intake system apart and verified that it is NOT laying in-wait, for just the right pothole to drop it into a cylinder.

The $10k hole that a 6.7 Cummins long block would knock into my emergency fund would just ruin my entire day! Probably the wife's too.

He really needs to find the the bolt. Otherwise at some point it will end up in cylinder 6 if it hasn't already.

This video is real helpful, block heater versus grid heater or both or neither -16 cold starts. All you need is a block heater.

Good luck finding the mystery bolt, everyone else who sees this delete that crap before its your turn to find a mystery bolt. No joking, I hope you find it ram brother.
