P2262 - Turbo Boost Pressure Not Detected

This was the beginning of the problems with the 2007.5 Cummins trucks. The DTC is referring to the turbo actuator and the fact that the sliding vanes in the variable geometry turbo are getting stuck from excessive soot build-up.

The original repair that we were doing back in 2007 was to remove the actuator from the turbo and operate the mechanical linkage by hand to try and free it from the soot. We would then install a new actuator and perform the actuator calibration test.

Then, when that didnt fix the trucks and the same DTC kept returning over and over Chrysler had us replacing turbos left and right until they devised the next repair procedure which was to drill and tap the turbo with the Miller # 10143A. This kit included the drill w/ depth stop, a tap and a drilling fixture that mounts to the turbo so you can drill the cleaning hole in a precise location. The other piece of this cleaning kit is # 10142 which is the cleaning hose with the nozzle that threads into the turbo. The nozzle sprays the cleaning solution into the turbo. The cleaning solution is Mopar #68044565AA and we use 3 cans per turbo to clean them.

The other thing we started doing in mid-2008 was removing the DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst),
the NAC (NOx Adsorber Catalyst) and the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and cleaning them with hot soapy water.

I fabricated an end cap that bolted on to the end of each piece and stood them up and filled them with a hot soapy water solution and let them sit for 24hrs. Next I would dump them out and put the water hose in each one until soot stopped coming out. Clean the EGT Probes and the Oxygen Sensors as well as the Differential Pressure lines and put it all back together. Make sure the ECM is at the latest software revision.
