Finally have some funds saved up to invest into the first mod for my new 2019 Classic. Looking at a set of front coilovers and rear shocks to improve off-road capabilities. I've been looking at the more expensive 2.5 diameter options, specifically Kings as Fox doesn't seem to have much availability right now, Icons don't come with reservoirs, and Radflos are a bit more costly. In doing my research, everyone cites improvements in high speed off road desert driving which is not something I will likely ever be doing as I live on the east coast. I'm trying to build a rig that will be able to tackle easy and moderate trails (don't mind being a bit overbuilt for the occasion) but won't be speeding through desert whoops any time soon. With that in mind, will I notice any significant increase in performance between a set of King 2.5's vs Fox 2.0's for my application? I want to maintain or increase on road ride quality while also making my truck more capable enough to tackle trails without having to worry about reliably which is never cheap. Other recommendations are welcome but I've excluded certain brands based on availability (Bilstein 6112).

I’m running bilstein 5100 and eibach lift springs. Should be very close to the 6112.

Aren’t the 6100s a larger bodied shock with better valving? I thought it was more than just the spring that came with it.

Yeah I believe the difference is 60mm vs 46mm but I'm going off memory.

Yes 5100’s will never be 6112’s ever. There is a reason for the price gap. @JAM Land hit up @Nick@GotExhaust he will set you up with what is available if you’re ready to buy.

I realize that the 6112 are a larger body and will be better than the 5100. However, they are valved the same. As stated I am running the eibach springs which is a big upgrade for the 5100 and makes it so the only difference is body size. The 6112 run the same setup eibach springs. For a mild setup it does great. If you want a better setup than the 6112 aren’t going to do what you want.
Edit: look up thuren and Carli. Both offer good kits and can build you custom setups depending on your needs

2.5s vs 2.0s is is a night and day difference....BUT at lower speeds a quality 2.0 vs 2.5 the gap wont be as noticeable. Now you need to think about what trails you will be hitting to see if the price difference is worth it. I ran trails in CT and let me tell you, I pushed 2.5's beyond their limit. This was in my Gen 1 Raptor with a progressive rear leafpack and Fox 2.5's. So east coast trails can be fast and push the limits of 2.5's, never mind 2.0's.

Let me know what kind of wheeling you will mostly do and I can assist picking out a setup that will fit your needs and budget. As you said over built isnt a bad thing

Nick, you're fired. Get out. Lol.

I know its a Ford but it was a bad ass truck. Really looking forward to seeing what the TRX can really do but I wont be able to afford that one at least not until its a few years old at least...but if resale is what I think it will be it will still be too high priced for me

Don't tell anybody, but I was a Ford guy all my life. Drove nothing but Powerstrokes...Sold the boat and got tired of making payments on $65-$75K trucks. Now they're even higher.

We will keep that between you and I ;)

I like all of the "BIG 3" Domestics. they all have their pros and cons.

Get 2.5's if you can afford them. 2.0's are not in the same league when you're putting performance, ride and longevity in one sentence especially on a 1/2 ton truck when it comes to bashing the truck up in the offroad trails. Don't forget the UCA's too. You don't want to run stock or $50 Mevotechs with a hi performance suspension.
Pay once cry once.

Thuren and Carli king are outstanding options. I went with Carli and picked stage 2. For daily driving it's great, but I've managed to push the limits in Pennsylvania on some trails. however, daily driving is great.

I added front upper control arms, rear upper and lower control arms, sway bar, end links, track bar, and track bar relocation, and bushings... all of these added a little more and a little more to both on and off road performance.

My suggestions going with thuren or king, you won't regret it.
