My truck = 2014 RAM EXPRESS 4X4 5.7L 6 SPEED XSMN 3.55 DIFFERENTIALS.

I will be adding ( EDITING ) to this O.P. ( Original Post ) as I complete this install .

Well I've done some mods , as far as the COMPASS MODULE, install it's important to know : my truck was an original RA1 NO frills non touchscreen radio. Also I did not and do not have an overhead console .

I have upgraded to the RA4 8.4NA Radio , steering wheel audio controls , VR /Phone button and a 911/assist mirror with microphones.

Through much help from folks on the forum here , I've been able to find out the pinout of the compass module and location of the original truck side connector .

These are pics of my truck as originally left the factory .
This is the connector that the compass module /homelink / overhead console type wiring would normally run through . It's located on the drivers side below the headlight dial as depicted in the photos below .
78241abaf7c056a257e53793287b88cd.jpg05237b388e81dde04b1c56ef7c6dd715.jpg662a4dcbd9cb2aee03fcf64d2e05cad1.jpgedd8dad28615916bf094cda32da1df80.jpgcb1c9fd58dd067fa280119d375297c31.jpg

As you can see the lower side is populated @ sockets #1 , #2 & #8 on the top row .
Bottom row it's populated @ #s 10,11, and 16 .

On the outgoing side it's only populated on socket #s 16 & #11.
This means only two wires are completing a circuit for something ? Not positive on what that is .

☆☆☆EDIT ☆☆☆
The two wires I met ione above are for my Dome light , #16 black is Ground , # 11 yellow/Violet completes the + circuit through the BCM .
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

This write up is about the compass module ONLY install so ...

Through the research I've eluded to above the compass module wiring only consist of 3ea wires :

@ the module #1 RED 20ga. wire is a fused B+
#2 BLACK wire 20ga. is Ground
#3 Orange & Violet wire 22ga. Is LIN BUS CBC2

GREAT looks like my Express is wired for the compass module !
Because I've researched and determined the #1 from the compass module goes to the # 1 of this connector , and the #2 from the module goes to #8 (ground ) or #16 (ground) of the connector and finally #3 from the compass module goes to # 2 of this connector.

Now I just need to obtain the proper pins or sockets to install on my The Harness Connection Home harness ( special order from CuylerTech " a member here" ) to install via ( plug n play ) as factory . To install my compass module .

I should mention I've already had Sales code CV2 Flashed in by my Dealer .

This is a picture of my compass module and the www.harness-connection.us special ordered harness , that did not come with the connector end socket / pin fixtures nevertheless. ...

804f615621b89a96ca1427dbc4d1a38a.jpg

This is a picture of my wiring notes for anyone interested in completing this themselves .
03e4e9b14d77e9308f4d23e7ff978172.jpg

What I'm doing this for : I want my directional heading to display in my instrument cluster and on my upgraded RA4 NA radio .
I'm not positive this will work but I am extremely optimistic in this case ...

Wish me luck ! Once I get the proper sockets / pins I'll be posting the results !

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆EDIT ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I've disconnected the green connector behind the drivers vent and verified I definitely need sockets on my harness .

This is the bottom (truck side ) of this connector .

bcbd1bbb738468851fe46d01c670d6ab.jpg

And this is the top side ( that I'd be plugging into)

b610d272dcdb6ebd84f2f605c46aa37e.jpg

Anyone happen to know the p/n of the sockets I require ?

☆☆☆☆☆☆END EDIT☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I could just solder splice into the proper wires ( and I may end up doing that ) but I want to install it like a factory install ...**** I know .

Things I'm not sure of :

1) is the compass module Location and Direction spacific ?

Can I just mount it anywhere ? OR. Must I mount it in the O/H console location and pointing the proper direction for accuracy ?

Well today I revisited my compass module only install , I removed the cover below the light dial

d39ea87e9ec343f0a1169977ac21c71a.jpg

Then simply by pushing from behind the light dial , I removed it .

4228661a4682c3dffe48cd9c18591f36.jpg

Next I removed the vent and vent bezel , this is done from the front and the backside , self explanatory once your there

I did this to get better access to the green connector . I accomplished my task !

More later , Moma has supper ready

Now that I have great access to the green connector, I disconnected the battery .
Then I unplugged the light dial , Diconnect ed the green connector and disassembled it's top side by removing the white cage on the face and carefully inserting a straight pick from the front side to dislodge the connectors plastic lock on the bottom of the sockets .

I depopulated the black ground wire front #16 , then the yellow / Violet wire from #11 , these two wires are for the DOME light .
I did this to get the connector in my hands for a closer look only . I'm trying to get a p/n or some sort of identification off the connector so I can research the sockets by p/n I require for a factory install of the compass module.

See the pics below .a33a7ee127f4916c7fee7b4c0c2b96ce.jpg
a565504c725627da2342c74f3739cf62.jpg

I believe the sockets I need are

The connectors identification is ( pbt-gf15)

Does anyone out there know for sure if this is the sockets I need ?
Any help is appreciated, I can only research on my phone !

I also need a source to purchase the sockets from , also a proper crimping tool .

Thanks for any input !

I know someone here knows the info I need , I just hope that someone reads my thread

How bout cha CuylerTech? Do you know the p/n and a source I can obtain the sockets I need in small Qty's ? I only need 3ea to crimp to the end of the harness you made for me a while back .

I also need a proper crimping tool , I could successfully crimp with my molex tool or similar device. I'd need extra sockets to experiment with ...

A member here RicksRam was nice enogh to send me the three sockets I needed ( this guy is SOLID !)
He sent the sockets with a good amount of wires attatched wires attached , I connected the wires with sockets to my www.harness-connection.us harness , installed the wires to the proper location in the green connector behind the drivers vent .
Reconnected everything and the battery ..... and I get NO signal on the radio or the cluster

I double checked my wireing and all is good ?
I Google the p/n of my compass module here's the results .

66cbdb2040414acd2171435e48489ee6.jpg

My truck is a 1500 Express . My RA4 8.4NA is from a 15 3500 Ram .

Wonder if the compass modules are truck year / radio year and series and model trim spacific ? Surely not ... I thought the compass modules where the same for 2013+ Ram's and the 2012 and prior wer diff .

The search says my module p/n is for a 3500 SLT 2014 TRUCK ?

@Mpgrimm2 , did your compass ever start working Sir ?
If I remember correctly your 2013 SLT RA2 original truck , your compass ( factory installed ) didn't work .... when you upgraded to your 2014 RA4 8.4NA did you then get a compass heading displayed ?

Those pins look correct. I have the part numbers at work. I'm trying to find a source for everything I need to build a harness for the overhead console. The problem is, they're obscure connectors and are generally only available in large quantities. Getting less than 10k of some of them is very hard.

The easiest and fastest way is to buy the repair kit from Chrysler (p/n 68057297AA). The problem is, it's like $70.

Damn $70 , thank you sir ! I found that repair kit last night , just didn't want to spend $70 for 3 sockets and no crimp tool

This might help from post 12 of the 8.4 conversion thread...

Ron, I'd be surprised if you don't have the Tyco pro-crimper at the helicopter avionics shop at work.
A couple notes on possible crimp tools for those wanting to make their own harness. If anyone else has links/details to affordable ones they used that worked well please let me know and I will update this post...

The link to the crimper cptwing used is/was broken.
It may have been this one by iWiss

From the original backup Cam thread..

I believe that is the same mass produced, made in China, crimp tool as the one I use for my Arduino's "Dupont style" 2.54mm pins. It can be found on eBay using a search for "SN-28B crimping tool" for +/- $15. Not sure how well it will work with the harness adapter pins.

The official Amp/TE Connectivity "Pro Crimper III" tool is likely upwards of around $210 at Newark or Mouser.
Manufacturer: TE CONNECTIVITY / AMP
Newark Part No.: 44F8409 (LINK)
Manufacturer Part No 58495-1

PS: if you know the pin part numbers called for by the connector and locate them in the Yazaki catalog, you may be able to go up or down a wire size to find a pin part number you can actual order in normal qualities that fits the connector housing.

You are correct your Express is wired for the compass module plus the homelink module. I have done a few if them but was always able to locate a factory harness removed from a headliner to complete the connection. I think I may have what you are looking for. I should at least have a couple of the correct sockets already connected to the wires that you can install into the plug and the solder to the wires to make the connection. Will check as soon as I get home.

@Mpgrimm2 I've never used this exact type of socket / pin on our Bell Helicopters, but I just dally in avionics occasionally, I checked with the avionics supervisor and he said we do not use them here but he was familiar with them . He has a Harley and said he believes the use the same style pins & sockets at the local Harley Dealer I'm certin I could make it work even without the proper crimp because I'm familiar to the style , I just need a few extra to practice with .
I may stop by my local Harley shop on my way home the wife says I shouldn't go to the Harley shop !LOL !

Good luck. Just figured someone at your shop had the TE pro crimper, not necessarily the same pins. (I have the crimper from a prior job)

So, the pins are available in reasonable quantities from the place I'm buying all the others from. But, these guys are giving me insane shipping quotes. If I can get them to be realistic, I'll order extras.

R.L.K. I depopulated one of my spare plugs and I believe I have the correct sockets. I will send them to you asap. P.M. me the address you want them sent to. I will.leave at least 6" of wire at the ends of them so you have plenty if room to solder. You are lucky I have exactly three of them lol.

Ron,

Aside from Rick sending you the pins, it would be nice to figure this out while you are in there for the next schmo so...

Here's the Yazaki YESC catalog link that I found ...
http://www.yazaki-na.com/user_area/uploads/yesc_catalog.pdf

and specifically pages 20-25 (14-19 actually) that I uploaded to mediafire (extracted using DoPDF plugin for my pc)
Yazaki yesc_catalog 1.5 Unsealed pg20-25.pdf

If you are sure about the pins being the 1.5mm size then you appear to have 4 options for sockets ... (pictured and below)

1.5mm Female Sockets (8/30/17 edit. Terminals are correct):
7116-4100-02 Sn 22 ~ 20 awg
7116-4101-02 Sn 18 ~ 16 awg
7116-4100-08 Au 22 ~ 20 awg
7116-4101-08 Au 18 ~ 16 awg

1.5mm Male Pins:
7114-4100-02 Sn 22 ~ 20
7114-4101-02 Sn 18 ~ 16
7114-4100-08 Au 22 ~ 20
7114-4101-08 Au 18 ~ 16

Housing: 16 pole / A Polarity / Green
Male: 7282-5534-60 (1/17/17 Tech Auth. Shows 7282-6453-60 )
Female: 7283-5534-60 (1/17/17 Tech A. Shows 7283-6453-60 )
Female w/CPA: 7283-5941-60
Delete Cap: 7282-5690-60

The 20-22 awg are probably what you want to look for whether Tin (Sn) or Gold plated (Au), but I bet if you find the 16-18awg they can be made to work/crimped or soldered onto the wires.

EDIT: I think Molex also makes a 1.50 x 0.8 mm Mx150 connector line that may have compatible pins/sockets?
(let me look for my link...), I was looking at using them to replicate jeepguy's camera harness at one point from ...
http://www.cycleterminal.com/molex-mx150.html

Edit 2: Lots of crimp tool links from the same place that may work well...
http://www.cycleterminal.com/crimp-tools.html

Good luck
